Hopper cleaning and hose check
General · every 50 hours
Amazone: clean the seed hopper (and C-Drill hopper) after the first 50 hours and as needed, and check the hydraulic hoses after first use and every 50 hours or weekly. Hoses must not be more than 6 years old.
Step-by-step
- Lower the drill, unfold the loading steps and open the hopper cover.
- Clean out the hopper, then close it and fold up the steps.
- Check the hydraulic hoses for chafing, cuts, cracks and leaks, and their date stamp. Replace any over 6 years old.

Seed rate calibration (trough test)
Metering · every year
Amazone says calibrate after every change of setting, seed or metering wheel. The first test rarely hits the rate, so use the calculator disc and test again.
Step-by-step
- Set the metering wheels for the seed (normal, fine or bean) and set the gearbox lever to the start value in the table (normal 50, fine 15, beans 50). The tramline counter must not show 0.
- Unlock and fold down the funnel rail, take off the calibration troughs and hang them on the funnel rail handles.
- Lift the drill until the wheels turn freely. Put the calibration crank into the square tube in the right-hand wheel.
- Turn the crank the number of times the table gives for your tyres, width and test area (1/40 ha, or 1/10 ha for low rates such as oilseed rape) until seed falls from every housing.
- Weigh the seed and multiply by 40 or 10 to get kg/ha.
- Use the calculator disc: line up the kg/ha you got with the gearbox position you used, then read the position for the rate you want.
- Set the lever, lock it and repeat the test until it is right. Refit the troughs.
Tools: Calibration crank (on the drill), Calibration troughs (on the drill), Scales, Bucket

- Move the axle, bearing, circlips and washers to the new disc, or fit a complete new unit.

Known problems
Older D9 and AD drills
This entry uses the current D9 Special/Super manual. Older D9 and AD 02/03 drills differ in detail; check your handbook.
Repair guides
- Seed rate wrong or uneven: metering wheels, bottom flaps and agitator (Moderate, 1–2 hours including a fresh calibration): Drill sows more or less than the calibration said, rate drifts between fields, seed is cracked, some housings drop more than others, or seed leaks from the housings with the drive stopped.
- RoTeC or WS coulter not sowing (blocked seed outlet) (Easy, 15–45 minutes): A row comes up missing or thin, a coulter outlet is packed with soil, or seed backs up in a conveyor hose.
- RoTeC cutting discs, furrow formers and depth wheels (Moderate, 2–4 hours for a full set): Uneven drilling depth, seed left on the surface in trash, discs not cutting, or cracked depth control discs or wheels.
- Track marker arm sheared off, wheel mark eradicators not deep enough (Easy, 30 minutes to 1 hour): Track marker arm folded back after hitting something and now hangs loose, or the wheel mark eradicators no longer reach working depth after new tines were fitted to the cultivator.
The full step-by-step guides are in Farmyard Workshop once you add your implement.
