Service jobs and parts

Spreading vane condition check and replacement

Spreading discs · every 10 hours

Amazone: check the condition of the spreading vanes daily. They are wearing parts: replace them as soon as holes from abrasion show, because worn vanes cause streaky spreading and can throw broken parts. Use the assembly paste supplied and tighten to 19.3 N·m.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Spreading vane unit1TS1, TS2 or TS3 (small, medium, large widths) and long / short / border vanes. Check your handbook or dealer for the numbercheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Switch off the disc and agitator drives and remove the key.
  2. Clean fertiliser off the discs and vanes and look for holes or cracks.
  3. Replace worn vanes in pairs (long and short on both sides) with the assembly paste and tighten to 19.3 N·m.

Tools: Torque wrench, Assembly paste (supplied)

Hydraulic hose and filter check (Profis Hydro)

Hydraulics · every 50 hours

Amazone: after the first 10 hours and then every 50 hours (weekly) check the hydraulic system for tightness and the hydraulic fluid filter's contamination indicator (green is fine, red means replace the filter). Check the hoses before every start-up; have them checked by a specialist at least yearly and replace any hose over 6 years old counting from the date on its fitting.

Step-by-step
  1. Relieve pressure in the system before touching any fitting.
  2. Check hoses for scuffing, cracks, leaks and age marking. Replace any with damage or a date over 6 years.
  3. Check the filter indicator. If it shows red, twist off the filter cover, replace the element and press the indicator back until the green ring shows.

Ventilate the friction clutch

Drive · every 200 hours or every 6 months

Amazone: every six months or 200 operating hours, and before first use after a long layoff, ventilate the friction clutch on the PTO shaft to free rust or moisture between the friction faces. Damp or high-pressure washing raises the chance of thermal distortion of the linings.

Step-by-step
  1. Take the friction clutch off the gearbox input shaft.
  2. Measure and note the spring fitting length a.
  3. Slacken the nuts and turn the clutch by hand to free any deposits.
  4. Tighten the nuts until the springs are back to length a, refit the clutch and the guard.

Tools: Spanners, Measuring caliper

Check scale zero and tare

Weighing · every year

Amazone: if the on-board computer does not show 0 kg (plus or minus 5 kg) with the spreader empty, re-tare it, for example after fitting accessories. If the filled weight is wrong, recalibrate (see the computer manual). No interval is given; do it as a pre-season check.

Step-by-step
  1. Empty the hopper.
  2. Read the weight and re-tare if it is not 0 kg plus or minus 5 kg.
  3. Recalibrate with a known load if the filled weight is wrong.

Angular gearbox oil change (first 50 hours)

Gearbox · when needed

Amazone's maintenance plan lists one oil change in the angular gearbox after the first 50 operating hours. The manual gives no repeat interval: check your handbook. Fill with ISO VG 150 EP / SAE 90, 0.23 L, using a new copper washer on the drain screw and a new O-ring on the filler plug sensor.

Step-by-step
  1. Take off the transport device if it is in the way: keep tension in the extension spring with a retaining screw in the frame, swivel it up and remove it.
  2. Take off the cover under the gearbox and put a container under the angular gearbox.
  3. Remove the bleed screw and let the oil drain. Remove the filler plug and sensor.
  4. Refit the bleed screw with a new copper washer, fill with 0.23 L of oil, then refit the filler plug and sensor with a new O-ring. Protect the sensor's cylindrical part with plenty of grease.
  5. Refit the other parts and remove the retaining screw from the spring.

PTO shaft grease

Lubrication · when needed

Amazone: lubricate the PTO shaft following the shaft maker's instructions fixed to the shaft, and grease the guard tubes for winter work so they do not freeze. The maker's lubrication point times are in the PTO manual, not the spreader manual.

Cleaning and rust protection after use

Storage · when needed

Amazone: remove fertiliser from the discs and vanes after use, wash with a normal water jet (minimum 300 mm from the machine, not at bearings or stickers, not on electrics or chrome), grease the machine after washing, and when dry apply a biodegradable anti-rust compound.

Worn vanes

Holes through the vanes cause uneven spreading and can eject parts.

Friction clutch seizing

A clutch left wet and unused can stick. Ventilate it before the season.
