Service jobs and parts

Hydraulic system and filter check

Hydraulics · every 50 hours or every year

After the first 10 hours and then every 50 hours Amazone says to check the hydraulic system for tightness. The hoses must also be checked at least once a year by a specialist. The filter indicator is green for fine and red for a filter that needs replacing.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Hydraulic hose lines1Only if damaged or older than six years. Use Amazone original hoses; part number: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Hydraulic fluid filter element1Only if the indicator is red. Part number: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Check the hoses before every start for rubbing, cuts and leaks. Replace worn hoses straight away.
  2. Every 50 hours check all the hydraulic parts for tightness and nip up any loose screw unions.
  3. Look at the filter indicator. If it shows red, take the pressure off the system, twist off the filter cover, replace the filter and press the indicator back in. Green should show again.
  4. Replace any hose that is damaged, hard and cracked, leaking or more than six years old, counted from the date on the hose end.
  5. Have the hoses checked by a specialist at least once a year.

PTO shaft friction clutch: ventilate

Drive · every 200 hours or every 6 months

Amazone lists this every six months or 200 hours, and also before first use and after a long idle spell. It frees any rust or damp from the clutch plates.

Step-by-step
  1. Take the friction clutch off the gearbox input shaft.
  2. Measure the fitted length of the springs exactly and write it down.
  3. Slacken the nuts to take the load off the springs.
  4. Turn the clutch by hand so the rust or damp between the plates breaks free.
  5. Tighten the nuts back to the spring length you wrote down.
  6. Push the clutch back on the input shaft, fasten it and refit the guard.

Tools: Spanners, Tape measure or calipers, Pen and paper

Grease the PTO shaft and weighing pin

Drive · every year

Amazone says to lubricate the weighing pin once a year and to grease the PTO shaft protective tubes in winter so they do not freeze. The manual does not give an hour interval for the PTO shaft, so follow the label on the shaft itself.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Lithium-soap multi-purpose EP grease1Lithium-soap EP grease, for example Aralub HL2, Marson L2, Beacon 2 or Retinax Acheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Clean the grease nipples and grease the tractor's universal joint shaft following the shaft maker's label.
  2. Grease the guard tubes of the shaft in winter so they do not freeze together.
  3. Lubricate the weighing pin once a year.
  4. After washing the machine, especially with a pressure washer, grease it again.

Tools: Grease gun, Rags

Taring, weighing calibration and spread rate check

Weighing · every year

Amazone says the empty spreader must read 0 kg (plus or minus 5 kg) on the control computer. If not, tare it again. If the filled spreader does not show the right weight, calibrate it. The calibration steps are in the control computer manual.

Step-by-step
  1. With the hopper empty, look at the fill weight on the control computer. If it is not 0 kg plus or minus 5 kg, tare it as the computer manual describes.
  2. After filling, if the weight shown is wrong, calibrate the weighing as the computer manual describes.
  3. Check the lateral distribution with the mobile test rig or your own collecting trays before the season.

Tools: Control computer manual, Fertiliser of known weight, Mobile test rig (optional)

Top link and lower link pins: check

Hitch · every year

Amazone says to replace damaged link pins at once for road safety. The allowed wear is 2 mm.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Top link pin / lower link pin1Only if cracked, bent or worn by 2 mm. Part number: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Look at the pins for cracks, breaks and permanent bending.
  2. Measure the wear. Replace the pin if it is worn by 2 mm or more.
  3. Check the ball sleeves for wear and, if the pin has fastening bolts, check they are tight.

Tools: Calipers, Torch

Season-end cleaning and lay-up

Whole machine · every year

Amazone's cleaning rules protect the discs, bearings and weighing parts over winter.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Anti-rust compound1Biodegradable type only, as Amazone requirescheck your handbook
Grease1Lithium-soap EP greasecheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Wash with a plain water jet. If you use a pressure washer, keep it under 120 bar and at least 300 mm from the machine. Never aim at grease points, bearings, rating plates, labels, electrical parts or chrome.
  2. Remove fertiliser deposits from the spreading discs and vanes and clean the discs very carefully.
  3. Fit the centre bolt of each spreading disc even if the discs are taken off, to keep water out.
  4. When dry, apply a coat of biodegradable anti-rust compound and grease the machine, especially after pressure washing.
  5. Ventilate the friction clutch before the next season.

Tools: Water hose or pressure washer, Grease gun, Rags

Angular gearbox oil and level sensor check

Gearbox · when needed

Amazone lists one angular gearbox oil change after the first 50 operating hours. The manual gives no repeat interval for later changes, so check your handbook or ask your dealer. The gearbox has no oil filter.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Gear oil1SAE 90 (ISO VG 150 EP), 0.23 L. Aztec Oils match: TRANSMATEC EP-4 90check your handbook
Filler plug / sensor O-ring1Fit a new O-ring each time. Amazone parts number: check your handbook or your dealercheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Run the spreading discs for a short time so the oil is warm and any particles are held in it.
  2. Take off the transport device if it is fitted. Keep the extension spring under tension by putting a retaining screw through the frame, then swing the device up and remove it.
  3. Take off the cover under the gearbox and remove the filler plug / sensor.
  4. Turn the spreading discs by hand so no tooth of the bevel gear is in front of the sensor.
  5. Push the thin hose about 12 cm into the gearbox and suck the old oil out with the syringe.
  6. Fill with 0.23 L of new oil using the syringe.
  7. Refit the filler plug / sensor with a new O-ring. Smear plenty of grease over the round part of the sensor to keep moisture out.
  8. Refit the cover and transport device, then take the retaining screw out of the extension spring. Dispose of the old oil properly.

Tools: Small syringe with a thin hose (about 40 cm long), Spanners and sockets for the gearbox cover, Grease, Shop towels

Spreading vanes: wear check and replacement

Spreading discs · when needed

Amazone says to check the vanes daily because the condition of the vanes decides how evenly the fertiliser lands across the width. Replace them as soon as holes from wear show.

Step-by-step
  1. Empty the hopper and stop the tractor engine and PTO.
  2. Look at every vane on both discs. Replace any with holes worn through them. The vanes and swivel vanes are wear parts.
  3. Use the assembly paste that comes with the new vanes. Tighten the vane fixing to 8.4 N·m.
  4. Do a spread rate check and a lateral distribution check before spreading.

Tools: Torque wrench (8.4 N·m), Spanners, Wire brush, Gloves

Basic shutter setting (manual shutter models)

Metering · when needed

Needed when the two hopper tips empty unevenly at the same shutter position. Only for machines with manual shutter control.

Step-by-step
  1. Pull the pin out of the hydraulic cylinder.
  2. Put the pin through the calibration hole in the floor plate and shutter.
  3. Slacken the nut on the shutter, set the shutter to position 31 and tighten the nut.
  4. Fasten the cylinder again with the pin, then repeat on the second shutter.

Tools: Spanner for the shutter nut
