Service jobs and parts
Brake pad and pedal check
Brakes · every 100 miles or every month
CFMoto's schedule says check the brake pad thickness every 10 hours, 100 mi (160 km) or monthly. Mud and grit wear pads fast on a farm quad. CFMoto marks brake repairs as a dealer job. CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brake pads | 1 | Only when worn below 1.5 mm; check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground, engine off, key out, wheels chocked. Lift the quad safely onto stands under the frame: the wheels have to come off to see the pads.
- Look at each pad. CFMoto's limits are 1.5 mm of pad and 4.0 mm of disc thickness. If either is below that, have your dealer fit new pads or discs.
- Check the hand brake lever has some free play at the end, and that the top of the foot pedal sits 70–80 mm above the footrest. If not, have your dealer adjust it.
- Refit the wheels with the tapered side of each nut towards the wheel and the tyre arrow pointing forwards.
- Brakes that feel spongy, drag or pull mean air or a fault: do not ride it, get it checked.
Tools: Axle stands or a lift, Wheel brace, Torque wrench (70–80 N·m), Torch, Ruler or vernier
Suspension pivots and cables lubricate
Chassis · every 500 miles or every 3 months
CFMoto's schedule says lubricate all fittings, pivots and cables every 50 hours, 500 mi (800 km) or 3 months. This model has named grease nipples front and rear. CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-season grease | 1 | check your handbook | |
| SAE 10W-30 oil for cables | 1 | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground, engine off, key out.
- Wipe each grease nipple clean so you do not push dirt into the joint.
- Rear: grease the rear suspension upper and lower pivot nipples on the frame.
- Grease the anti-roll (sway) bar nipples.
- Front: grease the front suspension upper and lower pivot nipples. The nipples match left and right.
- Use all-season grease. Pump until fresh grease just comes out of the bush, then wipe off the excess.
- Lubricate the brake and parking cables and cable ends with SAE 10W-30 oil. Replace any cable that does not move freely.
- CFMoto also says lubricate after pressure washing, after the drive system has been under water and before storage.

Air filter inspect and replace
Engine · every 500 miles
CFMoto's schedule says inspect the air filter every 50 hours or 500 mi (800 km), and look at it before every ride. Replace the paper element when dirty; do not clean it. There is no calendar interval. CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |

| Air filter element (paper, with foam pre-filter) | 1 | For 2024-on CFORCE 800/1000 Touring and Overland, as quoted by parts seller FridayParts; not confirmed in a CFMoto catalogue, so check your handbook | 0JYV-112100-5001 |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine and take the key out.
- Check the clear drain hose at the bottom of the air filter housing. If there is dust or water in it, empty it and clean the housing.
- Remove the seat and the upper left trim panel.
- Push in and turn the air filter cover anticlockwise to remove it, then take out the element.
- If fitting a new one, put a light coat of oil on the seal lip. Refit the cover and turn it clockwise until it locks, then refit the panel and seat.
- Do not wash the paper element with any liquid and do not blow it out with compressed air. Brush off loose dust; if it is still dirty, fit a new one.
- Each time, check the intake, the rubber joint to the throttle body and the clamps are tight, so no dirty air gets in.
- Never run the engine without the filter fitted.
- If water got into the air box, drain and dry it and do not start the engine until the dealer has checked for water in the engine.
Tools: Screwdriver, Soft brush, Bowl of warm soapy water for the foam pre-filter, Light oil or grease for the seal, Gloves
CVT air intake screen clean
Transmission · every 500 miles
CFMoto's schedule says clean the CVT air intake filter screen or filter every 50 hours or 500 mi (800 km), and replace it if needed. CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| CVT intake filter/screen | 1 | Only if damaged; check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine and take the key out.
- Find the CVT air intake filter screen (the cooling air intake for the belt case).
- Clean the screen or filter. Fit a new one if it is torn or will not come clean.
- A blocked intake makes the belt run hot and wear out fast, so check it more often in dust or mud.
Tools: Screwdriver, Soft brush, Rag
Engine oil and filter change (and oil strainer clean)
Engine · every 1,000 miles or every year
CFMoto's schedule says change the engine oil and filter and clean the oil strainer every 100 hours, 1,000 mi (1,600 km) or 12 months, whichever comes first, after a first change at 20 hours or 200 mi (320 km). CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 10W-40 or 5W-40 or 15W-40. 2.4 L at an oil and filter change. SAE 10W-40 (SAE 5W-40 for cold weather, 15W-40 for hot weather). Aztec Oils match: MOTOTEC ATV 10W-40 SS | check your handbook |
| Oil filter | 1 | Genuine CFMoto filter; same filter on the V-twin CFORCE 800/850/1000 including GEN3 (CFMoto dealer Takatalo oil change kit) | 0800-011300-0004 |

| Drain bolt sealing washer | 1 | Replace if damaged; check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on firm level ground, put the gear lever in P (park), stop the engine and take the key out.
- Run the engine for 2–3 minutes first so the oil is warm and drains well, then stop it. Oil and exhaust get hot: wear gloves.
- Remove the four screws holding the right-hand inner wing panel and take it off to reach the oil filter cover.
- Put a drain tray under the engine, take out the dipstick and remove the magnetic drain bolt and washer. Let the oil drain fully.
- Remove the three bolts holding the oil strainer plate, take out the strainer and its seal ring, clean the strainer and refit it (10 N·m).
- Remove the oil filter cover bolts and the cover, and take out the old filter.
- Check the cover O-ring. Fit a new one if it is damaged, and smear it with clean oil.
- Fit the new filter, refit the cover and tighten the bolts to 10 N·m.
- Clean the metal off the magnetic drain bolt, fit a new washer if the old one is damaged, and tighten the bolt to 25 N·m.
- Fill through the dipstick hole with 2.4 L of the recommended oil.
- Check the level: wipe the dipstick, rest it in the hole without screwing it in, pull it out and read it. The oil must be between the upper and lower marks. Too much or too little harms the engine.
- With the quad still in park, idle for 30 seconds, stop the engine and check for leaks.
- Take the old oil and filter to a proper disposal point.
Tools: Drain tray (5 L), Socket set, Torque wrench (10–25 N·m), Funnel, Shop towels, Gloves
CVT drive belt and pulleys inspect
Transmission · every 1,000 miles or every year
CFMoto's schedule says inspect the CVT drive belt, and clean and inspect the drive and driven pulleys, every 100 hours, 1,000 mi (1,600 km) or 12 months. Replace the belt as needed. CFMoto marks it as a dealer job. CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |

| CVT drive belt | 1 | Replace only if worn. No confirmed genuine number for the third-generation 1000; sellers list 0JWA-055000-10000 for the 2021–2022 CFORCE 1000. Check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- CFMoto lists the drive belt and pulleys as a dealer job. This check is what you can see yourself.
- Before every ride look at the clear CVT drain (sediment) tube under the CVT cover. Water or dirt in it means the CVT case needs draining and cleaning.
- If the quad has been in water above the footrests, remove the CVT cover drain bolt to let water out, then have the dealer inspect it. A wet belt slips.
- Signs of a worn or glazed belt: slipping, a burning smell, poor pulling, or squealing. Have the dealer measure the belt and clean and check the pulleys.
- After fitting a new belt, break it in gently: CFMoto dealer Takatalo suggests about 5 km at a steady speed, then let it cool fully.
Tools: Torch, Rag, Service manual (for removing the CVT cover)
Front and rear gear case oil change
Transmission · every 1,000 miles or every year
CFMoto's schedule says the front and rear gear case oil is due every 100 hours, 1,000 mi (1,600 km) or 12 months, and must be changed yearly if the hours or distance are not reached. The level cannot be checked on these cases, so the only way to be sure is to drain and refill with the measured amount. CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |

| Gear oil SAE 80W-90 GL-5 | 1 | Front 250 ml, rear 400 ml. Aztec Oils match: TRANSMATEC EP-5 80W-90 | check your handbook |
| Drain and filler bolt washers | 4 | check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground, put it in park and take the key out.
- Rear: put a tray under the rear gear case, remove the filler bolt and then the drain bolt underneath. Let it drain.
- Refit the rear drain bolt at 25 N·m and pour in exactly 400 ml of SAE 80W-90 GL-5. The case is designed so the level cannot be checked at the filler: drain and refill with the measured amount.
- Refit the rear filler bolt at 25 N·m.
- Front: do the same at the front gear case with 250 ml of SAE 80W-90 GL-5, drain and filler bolts at 25 N·m.
- Keep dirt out of the filler holes. Look at the old oil: milky oil means water has got in, so have the seals checked.
- Check both cases for leaks afterwards, and before every ride.
Tools: Small drain tray, Socket set, Torque wrench (25 N·m), Measuring jug and oil syringe or squeeze bottle
Transmission (gearbox) oil change
Transmission · every 2,000 miles or every year
CFMoto's schedule says the transmission oil is due every 200 hours, 2,000 mi (3,200 km) or 12 months, and must be changed yearly if the hours or distance are not reached. The V-twin has a separate gearbox oil from the engine oil. The gearbox has no filter. CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transmission oil SAE 75W-90 GL-5 | 1 | 0.6 L | check your handbook |
| Drain bolt sealing washer | 1 | Replace if badly damaged; check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground, put it in park, and run the engine for 2–3 minutes to warm the oil. Stop the engine and take the key out. The case and exhaust get hot: wear gloves.
- Remove the front service cover and take out the transmission dipstick first. This lets any pressure out of the gearbox.
- Put a tray under the gearbox, remove the magnetic drain bolt and gasket and let it drain fully.
- Clean the metal off the magnetic drain bolt, fit a new washer if the old one is badly damaged and tighten the bolt to 25 N·m.
- Fill through the transmission dipstick hole with about 0.6 L of SAE 75W-90 GL-5.
- Check the level: rest the dipstick in the hole without screwing it in, pull it out and read it. Keep it between the marks.
- Refit the dipstick, idle for 30 seconds in park, stop the engine and check for leaks. Dispose of the old oil properly.
Tools: Small drain tray, Socket set, Torque wrench (25 N·m), Funnel, Gloves
Spark plug inspect and replace
Engine · every 2,000 miles or every 2 years
CFMoto's schedule says inspect the spark plug every 100 hours, 2,000 mi (3,200 km) or 24 months, and replace it if worn or fouled. A worn plug causes hard starting and misfiring.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spark plug | 2 | Aftermarket: NGK. The plug the CFMoto manual specifies; no CFMoto part number found | CR8EK |
Step-by-step
- Let the engine cool and take the key out.
- Remove the right-hand upper and lower trim panels.
- Clean dirt from around the plugs before removing it, pull off the cap by the cap (not the lead) and unscrew the plug with the tool-kit plug spanner.
- A light tan colour on the insulator is normal. Replace the plug if the electrodes are worn or it is heavily sooted or oily.
- Specified plug: NGK CR8EK (two, one per cylinder). Check the gap with a feeler gauge: 0.65–0.75 mm.
- Screw the plug in by hand first to avoid cross-threading, then tighten to 20 N·m. Without a torque wrench, about 1/4–1/2 turn past finger tight, and have it torqued as soon as you can.
- Refit the cap and panels.
Tools: Plug spanner (in the tool kit), Feeler gauge, Torque wrench (20 N·m)
Valve clearance check and adjust
Engine · every 2,000 miles
CFMoto's schedule gives 100 hours or 2,000 mi (3,200 km) for the valve clearance, after a first check at 20 hours or 200 mi (320 km). At CFMoto's assumed average of 20 km/h, 100 hours comes long before 2,000 mi, so most farm quads will be due on hours. CFMoto marks it as a dealer job. CFMoto marks this as a severe-use item: halve the interval for frequent mud, water or sand, long low-speed heavy work, lots of idling, short cold trips or commercial use.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Valve cover gasket | 1 | check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Only check with the engine fully cold. Take the key out.
- CFMoto says this should be done by a trained technician. The covers, tank shroud and top-dead-centre setting need the service manual.
- Specified clearances (cold): inlet 0.06–0.14 mm, exhaust 0.11–0.19 mm.
- If you do not have the service manual and feeler gauges, have your dealer do it at the same visit as the oil change.
Tools: Feeler gauges, Socket set, Service manual
Coolant change and cooling system check
Cooling · every 4,000 miles or every 2 years
CFMoto's schedule says change the coolant every 200 hours, 4,000 mi (6,400 km) or 2 years, and test the coolant strength and clean the radiator every 50 hours, 500 mi (800 km) or 6 months, with a pressure test of the system yearly.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coolant | 1 | CFMoto OAT coolant, 50/50 with distilled water; 3.6 L at a change. Do not mix with IAT coolant | check your handbook |
| Coolant drain bolt washer | 1 | Replace if damaged; check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Only work on a cold engine. Never take the radiator cap off when hot: hot coolant can spray out and scald you.
- Park on level ground. Remove the right engine access cover, the right side cover and the front access cover. Remove the radiator cap and then the reservoir cap.
- Put a tray under the water pump drain bolt, remove the bolt and washer and drain the coolant. Disconnect the reservoir hose and drain that too.
- Flush the system with clean water and let it drain completely.
- Refit the drain bolt (new washer if damaged) loosely and reconnect the reservoir hose. Fill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of CFMoto OAT coolant and distilled water.
- Loosen the water pump drain bolt until coolant comes out with no air bubbles, then tighten it to 10 N·m. Loosen the thermostat air-bleed bolt until coolant flows, then tighten it.
- Total capacity is 3.7 L (about 3.6 L at a change), plus the reservoir (0.1–0.2 L).
- Fit the radiator cap, idle until the cooling fan comes on, stop the engine and let it cool fully. Top up to the top of the radiator and repeat until the level stays put. Fill the reservoir to the upper mark.
- Check for leaks and refit the covers.
- CFMoto uses OAT coolant: do not mix it with older inorganic (IAT) coolant. Coolant is poisonous to animals: catch it all and dispose of it properly.
Tools: Drain tray, Funnel, Antifreeze tester, Socket set, Torque wrench (10 N·m), Soft brush and low-pressure hose for the radiator
Brake fluid change
Brakes · every 2 years
CFMoto's schedule says inspect the brake fluid colour every 200 hours or 1,000 mi (1,600 km) and change it every 2 years. Brake fluid takes in water from the air, which lowers its boiling point. Replace the brake hoses every 4 years.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brake fluid DOT 4 | 1 | DOT 4. Fresh sealed bottle; quantity check your handbook. Aztec Oils match: HYDRATEC DOT 4 BF | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Check the fluid before every ride: front reservoir on the handlebar, foot brake reservoir under the seat. Turn the bars straight so the front reservoir is level.
- Top up only with DOT 4 from a fresh, sealed bottle. Do not mix fluid types and keep water out: it lowers the boiling point and the brakes can fade.
- Brake fluid strips paint and damages plastic: wipe up any spill at once.
- CFMoto says a full fluid change (and bleeding) is a job for a trained technician. Have the dealer do it every 2 years, and replace the brake hoses every 4 years.
- If the level keeps dropping, have the cause found before riding.

Known problems
Oil level rising in cold weather
CFMoto warns that a rising oil level during cold use means water or fuel is collecting in the crankcase. Change the oil straight away, and if it keeps rising stop using it and have the cause found.
Water in the CVT belt case
If water gets into the CVT case the belt will slip. Drain it through the CVT cover drain bolt, then with the engine in neutral raise the revs for a few minutes to dry it, and have the dealer check it.
Mixing coolant types
CFMoto fills these engines with OAT coolant and warns not to mix it with inorganic (IAT) coolant. Mixing can lead to engine damage, so have the old coolant fully flushed if you change type.
Mud-blocked radiator
Mud packed into the radiator makes the engine run hot. Clean the front and back of it with low-pressure water only; a pressure washer flattens the fins.
Water in the air box
If water gets into the air box or engine, do not keep cranking. CFMoto warns of hydraulic lock: drain the air box, remove the plugs to expel water, check the oil for water and have the dealer check it.
Repair guides
- Engine oil level rising in cold weather: water or fuel in the crankcase (Easy, 1 hour): The dipstick reads higher than it did after the last change, the oil looks milky, grey or smells of petrol, often after a winter of short trips round the yard.
- Water in the CVT belt case: drain it and dry the belt (Easy, 20–30 minutes): After wading above the footrests or washing, the engine revs but the quad crawls or will not move; water drips from the CVT drain tube.
- Running hot: clean a mud-blocked radiator, check the fan and coolant (and OAT coolant on the 1000) (Moderate, 1–2 hours): Temperature warning or alarm, the fan running constantly or not at all, coolant boiling into the reservoir, or the radiator packed with mud and chaff.
- Water in the air box: drain it and clear the engine before starting (Moderate, 1 hour): Water or dirt in the check hose under the air filter housing, the engine stalled in water, cranks slowly or locks, or a soaked air filter.
- Brake pads, discs and fluid checks on the CFORCE range (Moderate, 1–3 hours): Grinding, squealing, a spongy lever or pedal, brakes dragging after a top-up, or the parking brake not holding.
- Engine will not turn over or will not start: battery, fuses and relays (Easy, 30–90 minutes): Nothing or a click when pressing the starter, slow cranking, or the engine cranks but will not fire, perhaps with the EFI warning light on.
- 4WD or F-lock (front diff lock) not engaging, and gear case oil leaks (Moderate, 1–2 hours): 4WD or F-lock indicator keeps flashing, engine speed held back in F-lock, front wheels not driving, clunks when selecting, or oil on the front or rear gear case or round the axle seals.
- Winch faults, rope care and re-spooling (factory CFMoto winch) (Easy, 30–60 minutes): Winch slow or stalling, battery going flat while winching, rope bunched or jammed between layers on the drum, a kinked or frayed rope, or a damaged hook.
