Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours

Clean oil protects the bearings and turbo. Claas's current Arion 500/600 brochure gives a 500-hour engine oil change. The filter is changed with the oil every time. Grade and quantity: check your handbook.

Engine oil filter1Sparex lists this Claas number for the Arion 510, 520, 530 and 540 (crosses to John Deere RE539279, Fleetguard LF16243). Check your serial number.6005028743
Step-by-step
  1. Warm the engine, then park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
  3. Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
  4. Remove the filter, check the old seal came off, and wipe the filter head clean.
  5. Oil the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
  6. Refit the plug and fill with the oil your handbook gives, to the full mark.
  7. Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.

Tools: Drain tray (25 L), Filter wrench, Spanner for sump plug, Funnel, Rags, Gloves

Transmission and hydraulic oil and filter change

Transmission · every 1,500 hours

Claas's current Arion 500/600 brochure gives 1,500 hours for the transmission and hydraulic oil. Older 600 C tractors were 1,000 hours, so check your handbook for early 500s. Grade and quantity: check your handbook. The filters are always changed with the oil.

  4. Fit the new element(s), check they seat evenly and close the housing.

Tools: Torch, Damp cloth

Cab air filters: clean or replace

Cab · when needed

Dirty cab filters cut air flow and let dust into the cab. We could not find Claas's interval, so check your handbook and clean them more often in dusty work.

Known problems

Engine and emissions kit changed

Arion 500s changed from DPS Stage 3a engines (2007) to later Stage 4 and Stage V versions with DPF and AdBlue. Quote the serial number when ordering filters.

Early and late intervals differ

Claas's current brochure gives 500 h for engine oil and 1,500 h for transmission and hydraulics. Older 600 C era tractors were 500 h and 1,000 h. If unsure, follow your own handbook.
