Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours

Clean oil protects the bearings and turbo. Claas's Arion 600 brochures give a 500-hour engine oil change (TractorData agrees). The filter is changed with the oil every time. Grade and quantity: check your handbook.

Engine oil filter (spin-on)1Sparex lists this Claas number for the Arion 620 to 650 (crosses to John Deere RE539279 / RE555072, Fleetguard LF16460). Sparex also lists Claas 6005028743 (John Deere RE504836) for some Arion 630 C and 650 builds, so check your serial number.0011457960
Step-by-step
  1. Warm the engine, then park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
  3. Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
  4. Remove the filter, check the old seal came off, and wipe the filter head clean.
  5. Oil the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
  6. Refit the plug and fill with the oil your handbook gives, to the full mark.
  7. Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.

Tools: Drain tray (25 L), Filter wrench, Spanner for sump plug, Funnel, Rags, Gloves

Transmission and hydraulic oil and filter change

Transmission · every 1,000 hours

Claas's brochure for the Arion 620 C to 640 C gives 1,000 hours for the transmission and hydraulic oil; its later Arion 500/600 brochure gives 1,500 hours, so check your handbook for your model year. Grade and quantity: check your handbook. The filters are always changed with the oil.

Fuel filters and water separator

Fuel · when needed

Clean fuel matters on a common-rail engine. We could not find Claas's interval for these filters, so check your handbook. Drain water from the separator whenever it shows.

PartQtyNotesPart number

Primary fuel filter / water separator (spin-on)1Sparex lists this for the Arion 510 to 630, not the 640 or 650, so it may only fit earlier tractors; check your handbook (crosses to John Deere RE546336, Fleetguard FS19977)0011350420
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. Keep naked flames away.
  2. Clean around the filters before opening anything.
  3. Drain any water from the separator into a container.
  4. Remove the old filters and fit the new ones with clean seals.
  5. Prime the system as your handbook describes. Never crack open the high-pressure pipes on a common-rail engine.
  6. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Tools: Container for fuel, Filter wrench, Rags, Gloves

Engine air filter elements (outer and inner)

Engine · when needed

A blocked air filter cuts power and a split one lets dust wear the engine. We could not find Claas's interval, so check your handbook and change sooner in dusty work.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Outer (main) air filter1Sparex lists this Claas number for the Arion 530 to 650 (crosses to Donaldson P787281). Sparex lists 0011075900 for earlier 510 to 630 C tractors.0011076030

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and take the key out. Never run the engine with the filter out.
  2. Open the housing and take out the outer element. Only remove the inner element when replacing it.
  3. Wipe the housing out with a damp cloth. Do not blow dirt down the intake.
  4. Fit the new element(s), check they seat evenly and close the housing.

Tools: Torch, Damp cloth

Exhaust after-treatment (DPF, AdBlue filter and pump): dealer service

Exhaust · when needed

Claas says Stage V Arion 600 tractors (model year 2020 on) have EGR, a DPF and SCR with AdBlue. We could not find the service intervals or the Claas part numbers for the AdBlue filter or the DPF, so check your handbook or ask your Claas dealer.

PartQtyNotesPart number

Step-by-step
  1. Book DPF and AdBlue pump work with a Claas dealer.
  2. Keep the AdBlue tank topped up with clean AdBlue only and keep the cap shut.
  3. Never work near the exhaust or DPF until it has cooled; it runs very hot, especially after a regeneration.

Tools: Dealer service tool

Cab air filters: clean or replace

Cab · when needed

Dirty cab filters cut air flow and let dust into the cab. We could not find Claas's interval, so check your handbook and clean them more often in dusty work.

  5. Wipe the axle clean so leaks show up later.

Tools: Drain tray, Spanners, Oil pump or squeeze bottle

Coolant replacement

Cooling · when needed

Coolant protects against corrosion, liner pitting and frost but wears out. We could not find Claas's interval, coolant type or quantity, so check your handbook and test the coolant every year.

Step-by-step
  1. Only work on a cold engine. Let it cool for at least an hour after work and open the cap slowly to let pressure out.
  2. Drain the radiator and block into a tray. Dispose of old coolant properly.
  3. Refit the plugs and fill with the coolant your handbook gives.
  4. Run the engine to working temperature with the heater on, let it cool and top up.

Known problems

Two Arion 630 generations

The name Arion 630 was used on the 2007–2012 tractors and on the later Hexashift/CMATIC tractors. Filter numbers differ between them, so give your serial number when ordering.

Engine oil filter number

Sparex lists two different Claas oil filters for Arion 630 builds (0011457960 and 6005028743). Check your serial number before ordering.

Stage V after-treatment

From model year 2020 the Arion 600 has a DPF and SCR with AdBlue. Use clean AdBlue only and let a Claas dealer handle DPF and AdBlue pump faults.
