Service jobs and parts

Fan, alternator and A/C belt check

Engine · every 50 hours

The handbook's summary schedule checks the fan-alternator and air conditioning belt tension every 50 hours (its engine section says 150 hours). A slack belt overheats the engine and flattens the battery.

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and take the key out.
  2. Press the fan belt midway along its longest run: it should move about 5 mm. The A/C belt should move 8–10 mm at most.
  3. Look along each belt for cracks, fraying or glazing and replace damaged belts straight away.
  4. To adjust, slacken the mounting bolts and move the fuel lift pump (fan belt) or the compressor (A/C belt), then retighten.

Tools: Spanners, Rule

50-hour greasing

Chassis · every 50 hours

The handbook lists these grease points every 50 hours with Akros Grease T2 (lithium NLGI 2). Regular greasing keeps water and grit out of the pins.

Step-by-step
  1. Wipe each nipple before greasing.
  2. Rear half-shaft bearings (one nipple each side), the lift rod screws (2) and the lower link shaft (1).
  3. Power steering ram pivot pins (4 on 4WD).
  4. 4WD: the front axle cradle pivots (front and rear) and the hub swivel bearings (4).
  5. 2WD: the stub axle pins (2), axle pivot (1), hub bearings (2) and steering rams (4).
  6. Front linkage: the lift arm shaft (2). Clean the A/C condenser on the cab roof at the same time.

Tools: Grease gun, Rag

150-hour checks

General · every 150 hours

The handbook's 150-hour list: transmission, front PTO, front differential and hub oil levels, tyre pressures, battery electrolyte and brake pedal free travel.

Step-by-step
  1. Check the transmission level on the dipstick at the back of the gearbox, engine idling, linkages down.
  2. Check the front PTO and front axle levels at their plugs.
  3. Check tyre pressures and wheel nut torque.
  4. Check the battery electrolyte is about 10 mm over the plates; top up with distilled water only.
  5. Check brake pedal free travel and that both pedals match; brake work is for a Deutz-Fahr workshop.

Tools: Tyre gauge, Torch, Distilled water

Electro-hydraulic control filter (15 micron)

Transmission · every 300 hours

The handbook says replace the 15-micron filter on the electro-hydraulic control block every 300 hours, or sooner if its warning lamp lights. This is more often than the oil change, so it is a separate task.

PartQtyNotesPart number

Tools: Feeler gauges, Spanners, Engine turning tool

Injector test (dealer)

Engine · every 3,000 hours

Step-by-step
  1. Book the injectors in with a diesel specialist or Deutz-Fahr dealer.
  2. Clean around each injector before removal so no dirt gets into the engine.
  3. Fit new sealing washers when they go back in.

Known problems

Oil grade and interval

Only API CD or better oil gets the 500-hour interval. With API CC oil, very cold weather, high-sulphur fuel or biodiesel the interval halves.

Two different Agroplus ranges

This entry is the 1998-on Agroplus 75–100 with Deutz 1012 engines. The later Agroplus 67/77/87 and 310–430 are SAME-engined and have different filters.

Clutch and brake fluid

The clutch and brakes are hydraulic with ATF Dexron II in a shared reservoir. A warning lamp shows when it is low; bleeding the brakes is a dealer job.
