Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours

Eurol's page says change the engine oil every 500 hours, with a first change at 50 hours, and check the level every 10 hours. The oil filter always goes with the oil. Hengst's data sheet gives the E470H D28 filter element a 500 hour life on the TCD 4.1 and 6.1 engines.

Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, stop the engine, set the parking brake and take the key out. Run the engine to warm the oil, then let it settle for a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
  2. Put the drain tray under the sump, remove the drain plug and let the oil drain fully.
  3. Unscrew the old oil filter, wipe the seat, oil the new filter's seal lightly and fit it. Tighten by hand as the filter says.
  4. Refit the drain plug with a clean washer, then fill with oil up to the top mark on the dipstick.
  5. Run the engine for a minute, stop it, wait a minute and recheck the level and look for leaks.
  6. Take the old oil to a proper disposal point.
