Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours or every year

Deutz-Fahr's service plan says change the engine oil and the oil filter together after the first 50 hours, then every 500 hours or once a year, whichever comes first. If the diesel has more than 0.5% sulphur, halve the interval.

Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, stop the engine, set the parking brake and take the key out. Warm the engine first, then let it settle for a minute or two. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
  2. Put the tray under the sump, undo the drain plug and let all the oil run out.
  3. Put a tray under the engine oil filter, unscrew the old filter and throw it away. Wipe the seat clean.
  4. Smear the new filter's seal with clean engine oil and screw it on by hand until it seats, then tighten as your handbook says.
  5. Refit the drain plug with a good washer and fill with about 17.5 L plus 1 L for the filter, up to the top mark on the dipstick.
  6. Run the engine for a few minutes, stop it, wait a minute and recheck the level and for leaks.
  7. Take the old oil and filter to a proper disposal point.

Transmission, hydraulic and steering oil filters change (between oil changes)

Transmission · every 500 hours

The service plan has the transmission, hydraulic and steering oil filters changed at the first 50 hours and then every 500 hours. This is more often than the oil change, so it has its own task. They are changed again with the oil at 1,200 hours.

Fuel filter change and water drain

Fuel · every 1,000 hours or every year

The service plan has the fuel filter changed at the first 50 hours and then every 1,000 hours or once a year, with both stages changed together on a double-stage system. Drain water from the filter before starting after the winter.

Engine air filter main and safety elements

Engine · every 1,000 hours or every year

Known problems

First service at 50 hours

The service plan has a first change of the engine oil and filters, the fuel filter, the transmission filters and a valve clearance check at 50 hours. Do not skip it on a newly bought used tractor with no service history.

Sulphur in the diesel

Deutz-Fahr says halve the service intervals if the diesel has more than 0.5% sulphur (check imported or red diesel).

Front PTO oil quantity

The 2003 manual gives 0.9 L and the 2006 manual 1.8 L; fill to the level mark.

Engine oil quantity

The table gives 17.5 L with a note: with filter, add 1 L.
