Service jobs and parts

Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours

Published specifications give an engine oil change every 500 hours. Always change the filter with the oil. No calendar limit was found: check your handbook for a yearly change.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Engine oil1≈10 L; grade: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Engine oil filter1WIX aftermarket equivalent; genuine Deutz-Fahr number: check your handbookWIX 57085
Step-by-step
  1. Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil, then park on level ground, lower all implements and any loader to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Let the engine stand for at least 10 minutes. Hot oil and exhaust parts burn; wear gloves.
  3. Remove the sump drain plug and let the oil drain fully into the tray.
  4. Remove the oil filter, check the old seal has come off, and wipe the filter head clean.
  5. Oil the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight, or as marked on the filter.
  6. Refit the drain plug with a new washer and fill with the specified oil to the full mark on the dipstick.
  7. Start the engine, check the oil pressure warning goes out and look for leaks. Stop it, wait a few minutes and recheck the level.

Tools: Drain tray (15 L), Filter wrench, Spanner or socket for sump plug, Funnel, Rags, Gloves

Fuel filter change and water drain

Fuel · when needed

The common-rail system needs very clean fuel. No published interval was found, so follow your handbook. Drain water from the filter bowl whenever the warning shows or water is seen.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Fuel filter1WIX aftermarket equivalent (4 micron); genuine number and any pre-filter: check your handbookWIX 33690
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. No smoking or naked flames.
  2. Clean around the filter head so no dirt can get in.
  3. Drain the filter into a container, then remove the old element.
  4. Fit the new filter with a clean, lightly oiled seal. Do not pre-fill it with unfiltered fuel.
  5. Bleed or prime the fuel system as your handbook describes before starting.
  6. Start the engine and check for leaks. Never open common-rail high-pressure pipes with the engine running.

Tools: Container for fuel, Filter wrench, Rags, Gloves

Engine air filter elements

Engine · when needed

A blocked filter costs power and a damaged one lets dust wear the engine. No published interval or genuine part numbers were found for the 5110: change the elements when the restriction warning shows or as your handbook says.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Main (outer) air filter1Check your handbookcheck your handbook
Safety (inner) air filter1Check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and take the key out. Never run the engine with the filter out.
  2. Open the air cleaner housing and take out the main element.
  3. Only take the safety element out when it is due for replacement; never clean it.
  4. Wipe the inside of the housing with a damp cloth. Do not blow dirt down the intake.
  5. Fit the new element(s), close the housing and check the seals and dust valve.
  6. Check the intake hoses and clips for cracks or looseness.

Tools: Torch, Damp cloth, Dust mask

Transmission, rear axle and hydraulic oil and filters change

Transmission · when needed

On the 5110 the rear lift, gearbox and axle share about 62 L of oil, which also feeds the wet clutch, brakes and PTO clutch. Change the oil and its filters together. No published interval or filter numbers were found: check your handbook. TTV tractors may differ.

Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, lower the linkage and any loader fully to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. With the engine off, move each spool lever both ways and the linkage control to relieve hydraulic pressure.
  3. Let hot oil cool for a while: warm oil drains better, but oil straight from work can scald. Wear gloves.
  4. Remove the drain plugs and drain the oil fully.
  5. Clean around the filters, remove them and fit new ones with oiled seals.
  6. Refit the plugs with new washers and fill with the specified oil to the correct level.
  7. Start the engine, work the linkage and spools through their full travel, lower everything, stop the engine and recheck the level. Check for leaks.

Tools: Large drain tray (70 L), Spanners, Filter wrench, Oil pump or funnel, Gloves

Front axle and hub oil change (4WD)

Front axle · when needed

The 4WD front axle has epicyclic hubs with their own oil. No published interval or capacity was found: check your handbook.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Axle oil1Type and quantity: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, lower implements, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Turn each front hub so its plug is at the drain position your handbook shows.
  3. Drain the axle centre housing and both hubs.
  4. Refit the drain plugs, then fill each to its level plug with the specified oil.
  5. Refit all plugs and wipe the axle clean so leaks show later.

Tools: Drain tray, Spanners, Oil pump or squeeze bottle

Coolant replacement

Cooling · when needed

Old coolant loses its protection against corrosion and frost. No published interval, type or quantity was found: check your handbook.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Coolant1Type and quantity: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Only work on a cold engine. Never open the cap or a hose when hot; let it cool for at least an hour, then open the cap slowly to let pressure out.
  2. Drain the radiator and engine block into a tray. Dispose of old coolant properly.
  3. Refit the drain points and fill with the specified coolant mix.
  4. Run the engine to working temperature with the cab heater on, let it cool fully and top up.

Tools: Drain tray, Hose, Coolant tester

Cab air filters

Cab · when needed

Cab filters keep dust and spray out of the cab. No published interval or part numbers were found: clean or replace as your handbook says, and more often in dusty work.

  2. Open the cab filter cover and remove the element.
  3. Wear a dust mask. Tap the filter out gently if cleaning, or fit a new one if due. Do not wash paper filters.
  4. Refit the cover and check it seals.

Known problems

Shared transmission and hydraulic oil

The lift, gearbox and axle share one oil supply of about 62 L, which also works the wet clutches and brakes. Wrong oil or dirty filters can cause slipping, noisy brakes and poor shifts. Use the oil your handbook names.

Fuel cleanliness on common rail

The common-rail engine needs clean, dry diesel; the fuel filter is rated at 4 microns. Water or dirt quickly damages the pump and injectors, so drain water and change filters on time.

Check which build you have

Fuel tank size (165 L or 203 L), tyres, pump size (60 or 90 l/min) and gearbox (mechanical, Powershift HML or TTV) vary between tractors. Check your build plate and handbook before buying parts.
