Service jobs and parts

Filters: clean (EasyClean, CycloneFilter, in-line, nozzle)

Spray circuit · every 10 hours

HARDI lists the main filter clean at every 10 hours, whether or not the clogging indicator shows.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Filter element (EasyClean / CycloneFilter / in-line / nozzle)1Only if torn. Part number: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Grease for O-rings1Grease the filter lid O-rings on reassemblycheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Wear gloves and protective clothing.
  2. CycloneFilter: turn the pressure SmartValve to an unused function or the tank cleaning nozzles first, then unscrew the lid.
  3. EasyClean: turn the lid anticlockwise, lift out the filter, separate it from the lid and clean it.
  4. In-line and nozzle filters: unscrew the bowl or nozzle and clean the filter.
  5. Grease the O-rings, reassemble and check with clean water for leaks and a good nozzle spray pattern.

Tools: Soft brush, Gloves and protective clothing, Clean water

464 pump: grease every 50 hours

Pump · every 50 hours

HARDI says the 464 pump must be greased every 50 hours with 1 oz (30 g) per lubrication point, using the HARDI grease. The 463 pump book entry gives no 50-hour figure in the text I could read, so check your handbook for a 463.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Pump grease1Complex lithium NLGI 1, over 460 cSt at 40 degrees C28164600
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the pump. It must not run while it is being greased.
  2. Clean the nipples and give each pump lubrication point 1 oz (30 g) of grease.
  3. Check your grease gun delivers what you think: weigh 10 strokes and divide by 10.

Tools: Grease gun, Rags

PTO shaft: guards and lubrication

Drive · every 50 hours

HARDI lists guard check and lubrication at 50 hours, and the protection tube nylon bearings at 1,000 hours.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Protection tube nylon bearings1Change at 1,000 hours as the shaft maker describes. Part number: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Check the guard and chains and replace any damaged part.
  2. Grease the shaft as the plan and the shaft label say.
  3. At 1,000 hours, change the nylon bearings in the protection tubes.

Tools: Grease gun, Shaft maker's instruction book

Wheel nuts and tyre pressure

Wheels · every 50 hours

HARDI lists both at 50 hours.

Step-by-step
  1. Tighten the wheel nuts in the numbered sequence to 250 ft·lb (340 Nm).
  2. Set tyre pressure from the table in your instruction book and never exceed it.

Tools: Torque wrench (up to 340 Nm), Tyre gauge, Wheel chocks

Steering: check and retighten

Axle · every 100 hours

HARDI says if there is too much play in the steering section, retighten it. This applies to both steering and non-steering versions.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Split pin1Fit one if you take the big bolts offcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Check the steering section for play.
  2. Retighten the nuts on both sides to 185 ft·lb (250 Nm).
  3. Make sure the split pin is fitted at the end of the big bolts.

Tools: Torque wrench (250 Nm), Pliers

Hydraulic circuit, hoses and tubes

Hydraulics · every 250 hours

HARDI lists these at 250 hours: look for leaks and damaged hoses and tubes, and refill the nitrogen accumulators (ParaLift, yaw system and suspension, where fitted). Boom lifting hoses are replaced after every 5 years of use.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Hydraulic hose1Only if damaged, and the boom lifting hoses every 5 years. Part number: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Check the hydraulic circuit for leaks and repair any.
  2. Check all hoses and tubes for damage and secure fitting, and replace any damaged ones. Replace the boom lifting hoses after 5 years.
  3. Refill the nitrogen accumulators if fitted. They can hold oil under pressure, so take the pressure off first.

Tools: Spanners, Torch, Gloves and eye protection

Wheel bearings: check play (250 h) and repack (1,000 h)

Axle · every 250 hours

HARDI lists a play check at 250 hours and a strip, clean and repack at 1,000 hours.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Wheel bearing grease1Grade not given in the text I read: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Hub seal1New on every repack. Part number: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Split pin1New each timecheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Chock, jack up and support the sprayer on axle stands.
  2. At 250 hours: rock the wheel for play. If there is any, tighten the castle nut to slight resistance, back off to the first notch that lines up with the pin hole, and fit a new split pin.
  3. At 1,000 hours: pull the hub, clean and check the bearings, repack with fresh grease, fit a new seal and set the nut as above. Fill the hub cap with fresh grease.
  4. If you are not confident, have your HARDI dealer do it.

Tools: Jack and axle stands, Wheel chocks, Spanners, Wheel puller, Degreaser

Season-end lay-up (off-season storage programme)

Whole machine · every year

HARDI's 16-point storage list is the same pattern as for the Navigator. Chemical left in the system shortens the life of the pump, valves and seals.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Anti-freeze1About 50 L of mix: 1/3 automotive antifreeze to 2/3 watercheck your handbook
Anti-corrosion oil1Shell Ensis Fluid or Castrol Rustilo or similar. Keep it off rubber, hoses and tyrescheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Clean the sprayer fully inside and out and flush all valves, hoses and extras with clean water.
  2. Empty the sprayer, run the pump until air comes from all nozzles, and drain the rinse tank.
  3. Put about 50 L of antifreeze mix (1/3 antifreeze, 2/3 water) through the pump, valves, inductor and nozzles.
  4. Lubricate every lubrication point, touch up paint, store the glycerine gauges upright out of frost and oil bare metal with anti-corrosion oil.
  5. Fold the boom, release hydraulic pressure, bag the plugs, take the control box indoors, fit dust caps to couplers and grease unretracted ram rods.
  6. Chock the wheels and cover the sprayer with a tarpaulin that lets air through.

Tools: Water and detergent, Grease gun, Plastic bags, Tarpaulin

Pre-season start-up after storage and test reminder

Whole machine · every year

HARDI's start-up list after storage. In the UK, also check when your NSTS sprayer test is due.

PartQtyNotesPart number
