Repair guides
- Front drum brakes: lever free play, lining wear and adjustment (Easy, 30–45 minutes): Front brake lever comes too close to the bar, weak front brakes, one side grabbing, brake fluid level near the LOWER mark.
- Rear drum brake: pedal and lever free play, shoe wear and water in the drum (Easy, 20–40 minutes): Rear brake pedal or left lever travels too far, parking brake won't hold, weak rear brake after wading, brake arm arrow near the reference mark.
- Clutch adjustment and reverse lock cable (Easy, 20 minutes): Harsh or creeping take-off, clutch slipping, gear changes clunky, reverse hard to select or the reverse assist lever slack.
- Misfire, hard starting or tappety engine: spark plug and valve clearance (Moderate, 20 minutes for the plug; 1–2 hours for valve clearances): Hard starting, misfire, loss of power, plug fouled or burnt, ticking from the top of the engine.
- Split or leaking driveshaft (CV) boots (Moderate, 15 minutes to inspect; 2–3 hours per shaft to renew a boot): Grease flung round the inside of the wheels or on the suspension arms, torn rubber boot, clicking from the front when turning on drive.
