Known problems
DPF regeneration
The DPF/DOC regenerates by running hotter. Light work and idling can block it; JCB warns the operator, who can work the engine harder or run a manual regeneration.
Brake fluid type
Brakes take HP15 hydraulic fluid. DOT fluid damages the seals and brake pack.
Boom wear pads and main pivot
Check for sideways play at the boom nose. Unshimmed pads can crack the area round the main pivot pin.
Joystick seals
Split seals round the joystick switches let dirt in; a new joystick is dear.
Engine pod corrosion
The engine pod bottom panel corrodes and cracks round its fixings on many Loadalls.
Filters vary by build year
JCB's dealer kits differ: 2019 T4F 3-litre machines have two fuel filters and no sedimenter, while 2014–2018 and Stage V machines have a sedimenter. Order filters by serial number.

Repair guides
- Identify your Loadall build and serial number before buying parts (Easy, 30 minutes): Filters, oils or capacities in the book don't match the machine; a parts list gives two numbers; the model name on the boom differs from the paperwork.
- Brake fluid top-up and brake faults (mineral fluid, never DOT) (Moderate, 30 minutes to check; dealer for internal brake work): Brake fluid warning, spongy or long pedal, brakes dragging or judder after someone topped up, park brake won't hold on a slope, brake accumulator warning on a Stage V machine.
- Boom wear pads: checking side play, shimming and replacing (Hard, 2–4 hours to check and shim the front pads; longer to replace inner pads): Boom nose rocks sideways, knocking as the boom extends or retracts, uneven shiny tracks or bare metal on the runways, cracks near the main boom pivot.
- Carriage pins, bushes and quick-fit carriage faults (Moderate, 1 hour to check; 3–5 hours to change a pin and bushes): Attachment knocks or rocks on the carriage, play at the carriage pivot, cracks round the carriage pin bosses, lock pins won't go fully home, attachment hangs at an angle.
- PS750 powershift gearbox: owner checks (Specialist, 1 hour of owner checks): Harsh or slow shifts, drive drops out, gearbox warning or fault code on the display, oil leaks, overheating when towing.
- DPF regeneration warnings on a Stage V Loadall (Moderate, 30–60 minutes): Amber DPF or regeneration symbol, high exhaust temperature (HEST) lamp, loss of power, regeneration keeps asking after short jobs or long idling.
- Joystick switch seals split or switches sticking (Easy, 30 minutes to inspect and protect): Split or perished rubber boots on the joystick buttons, buttons stick or work intermittently, auxiliary or shuttle buttons on the stick stop working.
- Engine pod bottom panel corrosion and cracking (Moderate, 1–3 hours): Rust bubbling round the bolts of the engine pod bottom panel, cracks spreading from fixing holes, panel rattles or sags.
- Releasing hydraulic pressure safely (and leaving accumulators to the dealer) (Moderate, 15 minutes): You need to change a hose, coupling or filter, or disconnect an attachment, and the system may still be under pressure.
- Load moment indicator (LLMI / LLMC) checks: never bypass it (Easy, 10 minutes daily; faults are dealer work): No green power light on the indicator, LEDs don't rise with load, alarm sounds with no load, boom movements not cut out at the limit, fault code shown.
- Boom extension ram, chains and phasing checks (Moderate, 1 hour to inspect and lubricate): Boom creeps out or in under load, extension is jerky or noisy, sections don't move in step on a multi-stage boom, oil on the inner boom, dry or rusty chains.
- Hydraulic hose replacement (safely) (Moderate, 1–2 hours for an accessible hose): Weeping hose end, ballooned or cracked cover, wire showing, hose kinked or crushed, oil spray under load.
- Hydraulic ram reseal (lift, tilt, extension, compensation rams) (Hard, Half to a full day per ram): Oil running down a ram rod, boom or carriage drifts with the engine off, rod scored or pitted, gland nut weeping.
- Steer mode faults and realigning the wheels (Easy, 10 minutes): Rear wheels not straight in two-wheel steer, machine crabs when it should be in four-wheel steer, steer mode won't change, tyres scrubbing.
- Starting, charging and cooling checks (and jump-starting) (Moderate, 1 hour): Slow cranking, flat battery, battery light on, engine running hot, coolant loss, radiator clogged with chaff.
