Service jobs and parts
50-hour jobs (greasing and drains)
Chassis · every 50 hours
JCB gives a model-specific 50-hour list: grease the propshafts and PTO shaft, drain water from the fuel pre-filter, clean the air filter dust valve, and empty the hydraulic coupling drain reservoir. The Fastrac has more driveshafts than most tractors, and they need regular light greasing.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grease | 1 | Type as your handbook says; check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park level, lower implements, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Wipe each propshaft and PTO grease nipple and give a light greasing as the handbook shows.
- Drain water from the fuel pre-filter until clean fuel shows.
- Squeeze the air filter dust valve clear.
- Empty the hydraulic coupling drain reservoir (more often if it fills quickly).
Tools: Grease gun, Small container, Rags

Tools: Screwdriver, Goggles, Dust mask
Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 500 hours or every 6 months
JCB lists engine oil and filter every 500 hours or 6 months. That only holds with JCB Engine Oil EP 15W/40 and the Stratopore filter; with any other oil or filter JCB says do it every 250 hours. The dealer does the first change at 100 hours.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 15W-40. JCB Engine Oil EP 15W/40, ≈17.5 L. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC SHPD-X 15W-40 | check your handbook |
| Engine oil filter (JCB Stratopore) | 1 | Check your handbook or dealer for the number for your serial number | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on firm level ground, lower all implements and the front and rear linkage to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Let the engine stand for about 10 minutes after work so the oil is warm but not scalding. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
- Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully. Used engine oil is harmful to skin, so wash it off promptly.
- Clean around the filter head, unscrew the old filter and make sure its seal has come off with it.
- Oil the new filter seal and fit the filter by hand as marked on the filter. Do not over-tighten.
- Refit the sump plug and fill with JCB EP 15W/40 to the full mark on the dipstick.

Known problems
Electronic spool valves
The electronic spool valves on later 3000-series tractors, the 3230 among them, can be troublesome and are dear to replace. Conversion kits exist.
Gearbox synchros
Listen for graunching on a road test, especially between 5th and 6th. Worn synchros on 4th to 6th are a known high-hours fault, and stripping the gearbox is a big job.
Suspension and link wear
Check the front locating links, anti-roll bar bushes and the rear lower links and V-link joint for slop with a pry bar.
Handbrake dry disc
The handbrake disc can rattle, seize or burn out if it is not adjusted and kept clean, which is a fire risk.
Air system leaks
Build full air pressure, stop the engine and listen. Leaks are usually loose hose unions and often cured by tightening.
Engine oil interval depends on oil and filter
The 500-hour oil interval only holds with JCB EP 15W/40 and the Stratopore filter. With anything else, change every 250 hours.
