Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 200 hours or every year

Deere's 1 series and 2R sheets say replace the engine oil filter every 200 hours, or once a year if you do less. The newest 2032R/2038R sheet (serial LL300001 on) says 400 hours or yearly; check your handbook if yours is that late.

Step-by-step
  1. Warm the engine, then park on level ground, lower the loader, backhoe and mower to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and set the park brake.
  2. Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
  3. Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
  4. Remove the oil filter, check the old seal came off, and wipe the filter head clean.
  5. Oil the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
  6. Refit the drain plug and fill with Plus-50 to the full mark.
  7. Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.

Transmission and hydraulic oil filters

Transmission · every 200 hours

Deere's sheets say replace the transmission (hydrostatic) filter after the first 50 hours, then every 200 hours. On the 2R the separate hydraulic filter is on the same interval, except on the latest 2032R/2038R (LL300001 on), where the hydraulic filter is every 400 hours or yearly.

Filter kits

Deere sells filter packs that hold all the filters for a service, for example LVA21035 (1023E, 1026R, earlier), LVA21036 (1025R and 2025R), TA15270 (later 1 series and 2025R) and LVA23615 (2032R MY17 on, 2038R).

Different front axle oil on the 2R

The 1 series front axle takes Hy-Gard, but the 2R front axle takes GL-5 gear oil. Do not mix them up.

Serial-number splits

Air, fuel and gearbox filters all changed part-way through production. Read the serial number plate before ordering.
