Service jobs and parts

Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours or every year

John Deere says replace the oil filter after the first 100 hours. If Plus-50 II oil and a genuine John Deere filter are used the interval may be extended to 500 hours. The sheet gives no shorter figure, so check your handbook for ordinary oil. The oil is always changed with its filter.

Step-by-step
  1. Warm the engine, then park on firm level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
  3. Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
  4. Remove the filter, check the old seal came off with it, and wipe the filter head clean.
  5. Smear a little clean oil on the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
  6. Refit the sump plug and fill with the right oil to the full mark on the dipstick.
  7. Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.

Tools: Drain tray (20 L), Filter wrench, Spanner or socket for sump plug, Funnel, Gloves, Rags

Fuel filters

Fuel · every 500 hours

John Deere says replace the fuel filter every 500 hours. The 5075M has one filter, not the primary and final pair of the 4.5 L tractors.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Fuel filter15075MDZ114096
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. Keep naked flames away.
  2. Clean around the filters before opening anything.
  3. Drain any water from the filter bowl into a container.
  4. Remove the old filter(s) and fit new ones with clean, lightly oiled seals.
  5. Bleed air from the system as your handbook describes. Never slacken high-pressure pipes on a common-rail engine.
  6. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Tools: Container for fuel, Filter wrench, Gloves, Rags

Cab air filters

Cab · every 600 hours or every year

John Deere says clean the cab fresh-air and recirculation filters every 600 hours, annually and as required. Replace them if they will not come clean.

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and take the key out.
  2. Open the filter covers and take out the elements, wearing a dust mask.
  3. Tap or blow clean filters from the clean side, or fit new ones if the sheet says replace.
  4. Refit them the right way round and check the covers seal.

Tools: Screwdriver, Dust mask

Transmission and hydraulic filter

Transmission · every 600 hours

John Deere says replace the hydraulic filter after 100 hours and then every 600 hours. The sheet gives no oil change interval, so this is a filter-only task.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Hydraulic filter1SJ11784
Step-by-step
  1. Park on firm level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. With the engine off, work the hydraulic levers to relieve pressure. Let hot oil cool before you start; it burns.
  3. Clean around each filter, remove it and catch the oil.
  4. Fit the new filter(s) with lightly oiled seals.
  5. Run the engine briefly, stop, check for leaks and top up with Hy-Gard to the mark.

Tools: Drain tray, Filter wrench, Gloves, Rags

Engine air filter, secondary (safety) element

Engine · every 1,200 hours

John Deere says service the secondary air filter every 1,200 hours or as required.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Secondary air filter1RE253519
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and take the key out. Never run the engine with the filter out.
  2. Open the housing and take out the element. Do not let dirt fall into the intake.
  3. Wipe the housing out with a damp cloth. Do not blow dirt down the intake.
  4. Fit the new element, check it seats evenly and close the housing.

Tools: Torch, Damp cloth

Engine air filter, main (primary) element

Engine · when needed

John Deere's sheet lists the main air filter but gives no hour interval for it, only 'service every 1,200 hours or as required' under the secondary heading. Check your handbook, and clean or change it when the restriction warning shows.

  2. Open the housing and take out the element. Do not let dirt fall into the intake.
  3. Wipe the housing out with a damp cloth. Do not blow dirt down the intake.
  4. Fit the new element, check it seats evenly and close the housing.

Tools: Torch, Damp cloth

Transmission and hydraulic oil and filter change

Transmission · when needed

John Deere's sheet gives the oil quantity (≈53 L) but not an oil change interval, so check your handbook. The filter is always changed with the oil.

  2. With the engine off, work the hydraulic levers to relieve pressure.
  3. Let hot oil cool for a while, then drain it from the transmission drain plug(s).
  4. Refit the plugs and fit the new filter(s).
  5. Fill with Hy-Gard, run the engine, work the hydraulics through their full travel, lower everything and recheck the level.

Tools: Large drain tray (70 L), Spanners, Filter wrench, Pump or funnel, Gloves

Diesel particulate filter (DPF): dealer service

Exhaust · when needed

The 5075M has a DPF. John Deere says see your dealer for service; the sheet gives no hour interval.

PartQtyNotesPart number

Step-by-step
  1. Watch the display for exhaust filter warnings and let regenerations finish.
  2. If the warning stays on, book DPF service with a John Deere dealer.
  3. Keep clear of the exhaust until it has cooled; it runs very hot, especially after a regeneration.

Tools: Dealer service tool

Front axle and hub oil change (MFWD)

Front axle · when needed

The front axle has its own Hy-Gard in the housing and wheel hubs. John Deere's sheet gives the quantities but not an interval, so check your handbook.

PartQtyNotesPart number

  2. Turn the wheels so each hub plug is in the drain position your handbook shows.
  3. Drain the axle housing and both hubs.
  4. Refit the plugs and fill the housing and each hub to its level plug with Hy-Gard.

Tools: Drain tray, Spanners, Oil pump or squeeze bottle

Coolant replacement

Cooling · when needed

Cool-Gard II protects against freezing, corrosion and liner pitting but wears out. The sheet gives the quantity but not an interval, so check your handbook and test the coolant every year.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Coolant1Cool-Gard II coolant (ethylene-glycol antifreeze). ≈15 L (cab) or ≈13 L (open station)check your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Only work on a cold engine; the cooling system is under pressure when hot.
  2. Drain the system from the radiator and engine drain points into a clean tray.
  3. Flush with clean water, refit the drains and refill with the right Cool-Gard mix.
  4. Run the engine up to temperature, let it cool and top up the level.

Tools: Drain tray, Hose, Coolant test strips
