Service jobs and parts
Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 250 hours or every year
John Deere says replace the oil filter after the first 100 hours and then every 250 hours. The oil is always changed with its filter.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 15W-40 Plus-50 II, ≈8.5 L with filter. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC EHPD 15W-40 | check your handbook |
| Engine oil filter | 1 | Genuine John Deere filter, all four models | T19044 |
Step-by-step
- Warm the engine, then park on firm level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
- Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
- Remove the filter, check the old seal came off with it, and wipe the filter head clean.
- Smear a little clean oil on the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
- Refit the sump plug and fill with the right oil to the full mark on the dipstick.
- Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.
Tools: Drain tray (20 L), Filter wrench, Spanner or socket for sump plug, Funnel, Gloves, Rags
Engine air filter, primary element

Step-by-step
- Stop the engine and take the key out. Never run the engine with the filter out.
- Open the housing and take out the element. Do not let dirt fall into the intake.
- Wipe the housing out with a damp cloth. Do not blow dirt down the intake.
- Fit the new element, check it seats evenly and close the housing.
Tools: Torch, Damp cloth

Tools: Screwdriver, Dust mask
Hydraulic oil filter
Transmission · every 250 hours
John Deere says replace the hydraulic oil filter after the first 100 hours and then every 250 hours. The sheet gives no oil change interval, so this is a filter-only task.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hydraulic oil filter | 1 | RE45864 |
Step-by-step
- Park on firm level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- With the engine off, work the hydraulic levers to relieve pressure. Let hot oil cool before you start; it burns.
- Clean around each filter, remove it and catch the oil.
- Fit the new filter(s) with lightly oiled seals.
- Run the engine briefly, stop, check for leaks and top up with Hy-Gard to the mark.
Tools: Drain tray, Filter wrench, Gloves, Rags

Step-by-step
- Park on firm level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- With the engine off, work the hydraulic levers to relieve pressure.
- Let hot oil cool for a while, then drain it from the transmission drain plug(s).
- Refit the plugs and fit the new filter(s).
- Fill with Hy-Gard, run the engine, work the hydraulics through their full travel, lower everything and recheck the level.
Tools: Large drain tray (70 L), Spanners, Filter wrench, Pump or funnel, Gloves
Front axle and hub oil change (MFWD)
