Service jobs and parts
Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 500 hours or every year
John Deere says change the oil and filter after the first 100 hours, then every 500 hours or once a year. The 500-hour interval only applies with Plus-50 II oil, a genuine John Deere filter and diesel with less than 15 ppm sulphur; otherwise change every 250 hours.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 15W-40 (10W-30, 5W-40 or 0W-40 in colder weather). Plus-50 II, ≈16 L with filter. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC EHPD 15W-40 | check your handbook |
| Engine oil filter | 1 | RE504836 |
Step-by-step
- Warm the engine, park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
- Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
- Remove the filter, check the old seal came off, and wipe the filter head clean.
- Oil the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
- Refit the plug and fill with Plus-50 II to the full mark.
- Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.
Tools: Drain tray (30 L), Filter wrench, Spanner for sump plug, Funnel, Gloves, Rags
Fuel filters (primary and final)
Fuel · every 500 hours
John Deere says replace both fuel filters every 500 hours. Clean fuel matters on a common-rail engine.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel / water separator | 1 | RE546336 | |
| Fuel filter | 1 | RE544394 |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. Keep naked flames away.
- Clean around both filters before opening anything.
- Drain any water from the primary filter bowl into a container.
- Remove the old filters and fit the new ones with clean seals.
- Prime the system as your handbook describes. Never crack open the high-pressure pipes on a common-rail engine.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
Tools: Container for fuel, Filter wrench, Rags, Gloves
Transmission and hydraulic filters
Transmission · every 750 hours
John Deere says replace the transmission oil filter and the hydraulic oil filter after the first 100 hours, then after the first 750 hours and every 750 hours, always as a pair. The sheet gives no oil change interval, so this is a filter-only task.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transmission oil filter | 1 | AL221066 | |
| Hydraulic oil filter | 1 | AL169573 |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and implements fully, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- With the engine off, work the spool and linkage controls to relieve hydraulic pressure.
- Let hot oil cool before starting; it burns.
- Clean around each filter, remove it and catch the oil.
- Fit the new filters with oiled seals.
- Run the engine briefly, stop, check for leaks and top up with Hy-Gard.
Tools: Drain tray, Filter wrench, Rags, Gloves
