Service jobs and parts

Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours or every year

John Deere says change the oil and filter after the first 100 hours, then every 500 hours or once a year. The 500-hour interval only applies with Plus-50 II oil, a genuine John Deere filter and low-sulphur diesel; otherwise change every 250 hours.

Engine oil filter1RE504836
Step-by-step
  1. Warm the engine, park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
  3. Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
  4. Remove the filter, check the old seal came off, and wipe the filter head clean.
  5. Oil the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
  6. Refit the plug and fill with Plus-50 II to the full mark.
  7. Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.

Tools: Drain tray (20 L), Filter wrench, Spanner for sump plug, Funnel, Rags, Gloves

Fuel filters (primary with water separator, and final)

Fuel · every 500 hours

John Deere says replace both fuel filters every 500 hours. The primary filter also separates water; drain it whenever water shows. Clean fuel matters on a common-rail engine.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Primary fuel filter (water separator)1DZ115389
Final fuel filter1DZ115390
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. Keep naked flames away.
  2. Clean around both filters before opening anything.
  3. Drain any water from the primary filter bowl into a container.
  4. Remove the old filters and fit the new ones with clean seals.
  5. Prime the system as your handbook describes. Never crack open the high-pressure pipes on a common-rail engine.
  6. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Tools: Container for fuel, Filter wrench, Rags, Gloves

Transmission and hydraulic filters

Transmission · every 500 hours

John Deere says replace the transmission oil filter and the hydraulic oil filter after the first 100 hours, then after the first 500 hours and every 500 hours, always as a pair. This is more often than the sheet gives for the oil, so it is a filter-only task.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Transmission oil filter1AL221066

  4. Close the housing and check the clips.

Tools: Torch, Damp cloth

AdBlue (DEF) pump filter and line filter

Exhaust · every 4,500 hours or every 3 years

John Deere says replace the AdBlue injection pump filter and the AdBlue line filter every 4,500 hours or 3 years. A blocked filter starves the dosing system and can cut engine power.

PartQtyNotesPart number

Tools: Large drain tray (80 L), Spanners, Filter wrench, Pump or funnel, Gloves

Diesel particulate filter (DPF): dealer service

Exhaust · when needed

Dealer listings say this tractor has a DPF and that regeneration history should be checked. John Deere's MY20 6M sheet does not list a DPF part or interval, so ask your dealer.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Diesel particulate filter1Not on Deere's 6M sheet; dealer service, check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Let regenerations finish when the display asks; do not switch off mid-regeneration unless you have to.
  2. Book DPF cleaning or replacement with a John Deere dealer.
  3. Never work near the exhaust until it has cooled; it runs very hot, especially after a regeneration.

Tools: Dealer service tool

Front axle and final drive oil change

Front axle · when needed

The front axle has its own Hy-Gard in the housing and both final drives. John Deere's sheet gives the quantities but not the interval, so check your handbook.
