John Deere says replace the front PTO oil filter every 500 hours.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front PTO oil filter | 1 | DE30500 |
Step-by-step

- Run the PTO briefly, stop, check for leaks and check the oil level.
Tools: Drain tray, Spanners, Gloves, Rags
Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 750 hours or every year
John Deere says change the oil and filter after the first 100 hours, then every 750 hours or once a year. The 750-hour interval only applies with Plus-50 II oil, a genuine John Deere filter and low-sulphur diesel; otherwise change every 500 hours.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 15W-40 (10W-30, 5W-40 or 0W-40 in colder weather). Plus-50 II, ≈23.5 L. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC EHPD 15W-40 | check your handbook |
| Engine oil filter | 1 | RE539279 |
Step-by-step
- Warm the engine, park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.

Known problems
Parts change at serial 027000
Deere's sheet lists a different fuel filter set and DPF before and after serial 027000. Check your serial number before ordering.
Hydraulic filter depends on year and pump
The 2021 sheet lists AL169573 / AL203341; the 2022 sheet for the renamed 6R models lists AL232896 / AL232898. Check your serial number.
6250R is not covered
Deere's sheets for this range stop at the 6215R. Use your own handbook for a 6250R.
Sheets disagree on capacities
The 2022 sheet prints some transmission figures that do not match the 2021 one (DirectDrive and AutoPowr). Fill to the dipstick or level mark and check your handbook.

- Slow or weak linkage, noisy hydraulics or transmission warning: owner checks (6R, 6M, 5M) (Moderate, 1–2 hours): Lift is slow or will not lift the usual load, remotes are slow, hydraulic oil looks milky, or a transmission or hydraulic filter warning shows.
- Loss of power, black smoke or engine overheating: air intake and cooling checks (6R, 6M, 5M) (Easy, 45 minutes): Engine hot or coolant temperature warning, black smoke, lack of power, or the air filter warning is on.
