John Deere's sheets for the 6030 and 7030 Premium tractors say oil and filter after the first 100 hours, then every 500 hours or once a year. The 500-hour interval only applies with Plus-50 II oil, a genuine filter and diesel under 15 ppm sulphur; otherwise change every 250 hours.

Step-by-step
- Warm the engine, then park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and implements to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
- Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
- Remove the oil filter, check the old seal came off, and wipe the filter head clean.
- Oil the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
- Refit the drain plug and fill with Plus-50 II to the full mark.
- Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.

Carbon filters protect the driver when spraying. Deere's sister-model sheets say never clean them, and replace after 500 hours or 1 year, or with the engine primary air filter, whichever comes first.

- Stop the engine and take the key out.
- Open the cab filter covers and remove the carbon filters. Wear gloves and a mask; they may hold spray residue.
- Bag the old filters and dispose of them as chemical waste.
- Fit the new filters and check the covers seal.

- Stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. Keep naked flames away.
- Clean around both filters so dirt cannot get in.
- Drain any water from the primary filter bowl into a container.
- Remove the old filters and fit the new ones with clean seals.
- Prime the system with the hand primer as your handbook describes. Never crack open the high-pressure pipes on a common-rail engine.

- With the engine off, work the SCV and linkage controls to relieve hydraulic pressure before opening anything.
- Let hot oil cool before starting; it burns.

Engine air filter elements

Deere says the primary element may be cleaned up to 5 times and is replaced after 1,500 hours or 2 years. The secondary (safety) element is never cleaned and is replaced at every fifth primary change or after 1,500 hours, whichever comes first.

- Stop the engine and take the key out. Never run the engine with the filter out.
- Open the housing and take out the primary element.
- Only remove the safety element when it is due; never clean it.

Step-by-step

Coolant replacement

Step-by-step
- Only work on a cold engine. Let it cool for at least an hour after work and open the cap slowly to let pressure out.
- Drain the radiator and block into a tray. Dispose of old coolant properly.
- Refit the plugs and fill with Cool-Gard II.
- Run the engine to working temperature with the heater on, let it cool and top up.

Known problems
CAN-bus connector faults
Farmers Weekly reports failing CAN-bus connectors on the 6030 series, giving random error codes on the CommandCenter. Replacement is a fairly common job.
Water pump failure
A failed water pump makes the engine overheat quickly. The gauge and warning buzzer give early warning, so stop at once if they come on.
Brake discs contaminating the oil
Brakes, transmission and back end share one oil. Worn brake discs can break up and contaminate the whole system, so replace them promptly.
EGR and head gaskets
On the 30-series six-cylinder engines, Farmers Weekly names head gaskets and the EGR valve and cooler as the main engine trouble spots.
IVT and TLS axle repairs
A German buyer's guide flags costly AutoPowr IVT repairs and oil leaks from the TLS suspended front axle. Have a dealer read the stored fault codes before buying.
Repair guides
- CAN-bus connector faults and random error codes (Moderate, 1–3 hours): Random error codes on the CommandCenter (2000.09 in particular), warnings that come and go, gauges or functions dropping out, and engine hours missing from the dash.
- Water pump replacement (6.8 L PowerTech Plus) (Moderate, About 3 hours): Temperature gauge goes straight to red with the warning buzzer, coolant from the pump weep hole, a noisy pump bearing or a wobbling pulley.
- Rear brake discs worn or breaking up (Hard, About a day per side): Weak or uneven braking, long pedal travel, dark paste or flakes in the transmission oil, blocked filters soon after a change.
- EGR and head gasket trouble: owner checks (Specialist, 1 hour for checks): Coolant loss with no leak, white smoke, bubbles in the expansion tank, overheating under load, EGR fault codes, loss of power, or a new noise from the engine.
- AutoPowr IVT faults: owner checks (Specialist, 1 hour for checks): IVT warning or stored codes, jerky take-off, loss of drive, reduced top speed, whining, or the tractor going into a limp mode.
- PowrQuad Plus and AutoQuad Plus shift faults: owner checks (Specialist, 1–2 hours for the owner checks): Slow or harsh shifts, a gear that slips or spins (often third or fourth), no drive in one direction, shift codes on the CommandCenter.
- MFWD and TLS suspended front axle: oil leaks and seals (Hard, 3–5 hours per hub seal): Oil round the hubs or kingpins, damp suspension cylinders or accumulators, the front end sitting low, a harsh ride or suspension warnings.
- Electronic rear hitch won't lift or lowers on its own (Moderate, 1–2 hours for checks): Hitch will not respond to the controls or fender switches, lifts slowly, drops on its own, or hitch codes show on the CommandCenter.
- Common-rail injectors, fuel priming and turbo checks (Specialist, 1–2 hours for checks and filters): Hard starting, misfire, rough idle, black or white smoke, loss of power, fuel in the oil, turbo whistle or oil around the turbo.
- Rear PTO won't engage, slips or won't stop (Moderate, 1–2 hours for checks; internal repairs are much longer): PTO does not turn when switched on, engages slowly or slips under load, keeps turning when switched off, or oil leaks round the PTO shaft.
- Cab air conditioning not cooling: owner checks (Moderate, 1 hour for owner checks): Air con blows warm, cools only at high revs, compressor clutch clicks in and out, weak airflow, musty smell, or water dripping in the cab.
- Starter and alternator: no crank, slow crank or not charging (Moderate, 1–3 hours): Click but no crank, slow cranking, nothing at all when the key is turned, battery warning light on, flat batteries, or a whining alternator.
