Service jobs and parts
Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 250 hours
John Deere says the first change is at 100 hours, then every 250 hours. The 250-hour interval can be extended to 500 hours if Plus-50 oil and a genuine John Deere filter are used.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 15W-40 (10W-30, 5W-40 or 0W-40 in colder weather). Plus-50 II, ≈21 L. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC EHPD 15W-40 | check your handbook |
| Engine oil filter | 1 | T19044 for the 7220 and 7320 with 6068TRW01 engines | RE504836 |
Step-by-step
- Warm the engine, park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
- Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
- Remove the filter, check the old seal came off, and wipe the filter head clean.
- Oil the new filter seal and fit it hand-tight as marked on the filter.
- Refit the plug and fill with Plus-50 II to the full mark.
- Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.
Tools: Drain tray (30 L), Filter wrench, Spanner for sump plug, Funnel, Gloves, Rags
Cab activated carbon filter kit (where fitted)
Cab · every 500 hours or every year
Carbon filters protect the driver when spraying. John Deere says never clean them; replace annually, after 500 hours or as required.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Activated carbon filter kit | 1 | First-time carbon cab install: AL159178 | AL158986 |
Step-by-step

- Bag the old filter and dispose of it as chemical waste.
- Fit the new filter and check the cover seals.
Tools: Screwdriver, Dust mask, Gloves
Fuel filters
Fuel · every 500 hours
John Deere says replace the fuel filters every 500 hours. The part depends on the engine model and serial number, so check your engine plate against Deere's table.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary fuel filter | 1 | Engines 6068HRW59/70/71 (7220, 7320) and 6068HRW60/71 (7420, 7520), serial-dependent; early engines use a single RE62419 | RE509036 |
| Final fuel filter | 1 | RE509031 on some serial ranges, RE509032 on others | RE509032 |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. Keep naked flames away.
- Clean around both filters before opening anything.
- Drain any water from the primary filter into a container.
- Remove the old filters and fit the new ones with clean seals.
- Prime the system as your handbook describes. Never crack open the high-pressure pipes on a common-rail engine.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
Tools: Container for fuel, Filter wrench, Gloves, Rags

- Let hot oil cool before starting; it burns.
- Clean around each filter, remove it and catch the oil. Fit the new filters with oiled seals.
- Run the engine briefly, stop, check for leaks and top up with Hy-Gard.
Tools: Drain tray, Filter wrench, Gloves, Rags
Transmission and hydraulic filters
Transmission · every 750 hours
