Known problems
Axle end play
Deere says have the dealer check axle end play at 2,000 hours, or 1,500 hours in severe duty.
Recalibration
The powershift transmission only needs recalibrating if shifts change after an oil and filter change; a dealer job.
Repair guides
- Axle end play check on 9030 series (dealer job) (Specialist, Dealer job): Clunking from the axle on take-up, oil weeping at the axle ends, or the service interval of 2,000 hours (1,500 in severe work) has arrived.
- Hard starting or stalling: fuel filters and priming (9020, 9030, 9R) (Moderate, 1–1.5 hours): Engine cranks but will not start after fuel work, stalls, lacks power.
- Transmission warning or slow hydraulics: transmission, lube and axle filters (9020, 9030, 9R) (Moderate, 1–2 hours): Transmission warning light, slow or noisy hydraulics, harsh shifts.
- Loss of power or black smoke: air filters (9020, 9030, 9R) (Easy, 30 minutes): Black smoke, lack of power, restriction warning.
