Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 500 hours or every year
Deere's sheet says change the engine oil and filter at 100 hours, then every 500 hours or annually. The 500 hours is only allowed with Plus-50 II oil, a John Deere filter and diesel with under 15 ppm sulphur. If any of these is not met, change at 250 hours.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 15W-40 (10W-30, 5W-40 or 0W-40 in colder weather). John Deere Plus-50 II, ≈60.8 L (13.6 L engine) or ≈43.5 L (15 L engine) with filter. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC EHPD 15W-40 | check your handbook |
| Engine oil filter | 1 | 13.6 L engine | RE572785 |
| Engine oil filter | 1 | 15 L engine | DZ121669 |
Step-by-step
- Warm the engine, then park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
- Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully.
- Remove the filter, check the old seal came off with it, and wipe the filter head clean.
- Oil the new filter seal and fit the filter hand-tight as marked on it.
- Refit the plug and fill with Plus-50 II to the full mark (≈60.8 L (13.6 L engine) or ≈43.5 L (15 L engine)).
- Run the engine for a minute, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level. Take the old oil to a proper disposal point.
