Service jobs and parts

Daily checks (every 10 hours, at least daily)

Daily checks · every 10 hours

Krone's every-10-hours list. The chain lubrication dosing units block easily with dust, and a dry chain soon stretches.

  3. Clean the machine.
  4. Check the brakes work.
  5. Clean the drawbar eye and bushing.
  6. Check the chain lubrication dosing units and clean them if needed.

50-hour checks: bolts, wheels, tyres

Chassis and tyres · every 50 hours

Krone's every-50-hours list. On a new baler, do the wheel nuts, drawbar bolts, tyres and hoses once after the first 10 hours as well.

Step-by-step
  1. Disengage the PTO, stop the tractor engine, take the key out and apply the brakes.
  2. Tighten the bolts and nuts on the machine and the drawbar bolts, to the torque table in the handbook.
  3. Retighten the wheel nuts and check the tyre pressures.
  4. Drain water from the air brake tanks if fitted.
  5. New baler: also do these once after the first 10 hours, check the hoses for leaks and have the brake slack adjuster checked by a Krone dealer.

Tools: Torque wrench, Socket set, Tyre pressure gauge

Main gearbox oil change

Gearbox · every 500 hours

Krone: change the main gearbox oil once after the first 50 hours, then every 500 hours. Check the level every 10 hours and before the season. The gearbox has no filter. Never mix oils of different specs.

Step-by-step
  1. Park the baler level on firm ground with the drawbar at the right height. Disengage the PTO, stop the tractor engine, take the key out and apply the brakes. The gearbox is behind the drawbar at the front.
  2. Take out the plug from the inspection and filling hole on the side, then the drain plug underneath, and drain the oil into a tray.
  3. Refit the drain plug.
  4. Fill with SAE 90 GL4 through the side hole until it reaches the hole (about 2.00 L).
  5. Refit the plug at the torque in the handbook.
  6. First change at 50 hours on a new baler, then every 500 hours.

Tools: Drain tray (5 L), Spanners for the plugs, Torque wrench, Funnel, Gloves

Central chain lubrication: filter change and top-up

Chains and lubrication · every year

Drive chain adjustment

Chains and lubrication · every year

Krone lists chain adjustment before the season and chain cleaning after it. On the pick-up drive the tension springs are set to 60 mm.

Step-by-step
  1. Lower the pick-up to working position, stop the tractor engine, take the key out and apply the brakes.
  2. Take off the right-hand pick-up guard and clean the chains.
  3. Pick-up main drive chain and pick-up drive chain: turn the spring nuts until spring lengths X1 and X2 are both 60 mm.
  4. Check and adjust the intake, bale-forming conveyor, auger and starter roller chains as the handbook shows.
  5. Refit the guard.

Tools: Spanners, Rule, Brush

Net brake and net unit preparation

Net wrapping · every year

Krone asks for the net brake disc to be prepared before the season and protected from rust after it. Use cardboard cores: grooved plastic cores let the brake drag the roll.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Net roll1Up to 1,300 mm wide, 1,250–1,330 mm core, max. 310 mm diameter. Krone 'excellent' net is recommended27 016 326
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the tractor engine, take the key out and apply the brakes.
  2. Clean rust off the net brake disc so the brake works evenly.
  3. Fit the net roll on a cardboard core. Make sure the core sits the right way round and is dry, as damp cores go soft.
  4. Run a tying cycle and check it works.
  5. After the season, protect the brake disc from rust.

Known problems

Cam clutch has tripped

If a cam clutch kicks out, switch the PTO off, then back on at low idle until the clutch re-engages, then bring it up to rated speed. Switch off if it keeps slipping, or it wears early.

Never mix oils

Krone warns not to mix oils of different specs. Ask a Krone dealer before changing to a different oil.

Overload clutches are factory set

Don't adjust or change the cam clutches yourself. Non-Krone overload devices void the warranty.
