Service jobs and parts

Central chain lubrication oil

Chains · every 8 hours

On balers with the central chain lubrication system, check the oil container daily and the oil lines before use as they can clog. Replace the system filter once a year. If the tank ran dry, the system has to be bled.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Chain lubricator oil115W-40. Biodegradable, viscosity near 15W-40. Quantity: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Top up the container with approved oil. Make sure no dirt or water gets in.
  2. If it ran empty, top up, remove the container hose from the pump until oil leaks, refit, open the venting screw and pump by hand until oil runs without bubbles.
  3. Once a year, empty and clean the tank and replace the filter.

Tools: Funnel, Clean rags

Wheel nuts and tyre pressure

Chassis · every 50 hours

Check the wheel nuts 10 hours after fitting and then every 50 hours. Check tyre pressure regularly; the correct figure depends on tyre size and is in the manual's table.

Step-by-step
  1. Chock the wheels.
  2. Tighten in the order shown in the manual's illustration, using the torque for your stud size.
  3. Set tyre pressure to the manual's table.

Tools: Torque wrench, Tyre gauge

Nuts and bolts check

General · every 50 hours

Krone says to check screws and nuts about every 50 operating hours and retighten to the torque tables.

Main gearbox oil change

Gearbox · every year

Krone says to change the oil in all gearboxes after the first 30 to 50 operating hours, then after every season. Check the level every time before use and no later than about 500 bales. If the gearbox runs biodegradable oil, you must keep strictly to the interval because the oil ages.

Step-by-step
  1. Park the baler level. Switch off the PTO, stop the tractor, take the key out.
  2. Put a tray under the gearbox in the front crossbeam.
  3. Unscrew the oil drain plug and let the oil drain.
  4. Unscrew the inspection screw, refit the drain plug and tighten.
  5. Pour new oil in through the inspection hole until it reaches the hole, then refit and tighten the inspection screw.

Drive chain tension

Chains · every year

Check the floor conveyor and pick-up drive chain tensioners after first use and then every 100 bales, and at the start of each season (after about 5 bales).

Step-by-step
  1. Stop everything and make the baler safe. Lower the pick-up to the ground.
  2. Floor conveyor drive: spring length should be 80 to 90 mm (front drive) and 90 mm (rear drive, F models per the manual diagrams); adjust at the counter nut.
  3. Pick-up main drive: spring length 30 mm. Drive pick-up: 30 mm.
  4. Tighten counter nuts after adjusting. Check against the manual's pictures for your variant.

Tools: Spanners, Rule

Tailgate lock setting

Chamber · every year

The F and V models have different lock settings. V 1500 / V 1800 spring pretension on the tailgate lock is a = 350 mm; F models 5 mm lock hook gap.

Step-by-step
  1. Fortima V: measure the spring dimension and turn the nut until it is 350 mm. Do both sides.
  2. Fortima F: with the counter nut loose, turn the piston rod until the gap between lock hook and clamping sleeve is 5 mm. Retighten.

Tools: Spanners, Rule

End-of-season clean and lubrication

Different gearbox oil sites

Other websites quote 80W-90 or 75W-90 for these gearboxes. The maker's manual only says SAE 90, so that is what is listed.

The manual's torque table is hard to read in the copy checked. Use your own handbook for your stud size.
