Drive chain oiling

Chains · every 24 hours

Krone: oil the roller panel drive chain, roller drive chain and pick-up drive chain every 24 operating hours with plant-based oil. The roller panel chain has an automatic tensioner, and so does the double binding twine guide drive.

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the machine. Only oil or tighten chains when the baler is at a standstill.
  2. Open the protective flap or guard, oil the chain, then refit the guard.
  3. Roller panel drive (left): loosen screw (4) and slide the chain wheel down in its slot to tighten, then retighten.
  4. Roller drive (right): spring-loaded; undo the self-locking nuts on the adjusting screw, turn it to get the tension, retighten the nuts.
  5. Pick-up drive (left): undo the screws on the left of the pick-up and the one under the tensioner mount, undo the self-locking nut, tighten with the adjusting screw, then retighten.

Greasing · every 24 hours

Krone's lubrication plan shows points at 8, 24, 50 and 100 hours (the chart is a drawing, so the points are in your handbook). The PTO shaft points are at 8, 20 and 40 hours.

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the machine, take the key out and secure it.
  2. Follow the lubrication plan for your model (KR 130 / KR 160, or the B models) and grease each marked point at its interval.
  3. PTO shaft: intervals are in the PTO shaft maker's diagram; Krone shows 8, 20 and 40 hours.
  4. Clean and grease the tractor hitch sleeve every day to keep wear down.
  5. Grease the bearings after cleaning and do not wipe away grease coming out of bearings: it keeps moisture out.

Tools: Grease gun

Wheel nuts and tyre pressure

Tyres and wheels · every 50 hours

Krone: check the wheel nuts 10 operating hours after mounting a wheel, then every 50 hours. Tyre pressure from the table in the spec list.

Step-by-step
  1. Tighten the wheel nuts in the diagonal order shown in the handbook.
  2. Check the wheel nuts at 10 hours after a wheel is fitted and every 50 hours after.
  3. Set the tyre pressures from the spec list: 4.0 bar for 10.0/75-15.3, 3.5 bar for 11.5/80-15.3 and 15.0/55-17, and 2.5 bar for the pick-up wheels.

Tools: Torque wrench, Tyre gauge

Main gearbox oil change

Gearbox · every year

Krone says the first oil change is after the first 500 bales, then every 2,000 bales. Check the oil level after every 500 bales. The gearbox takes about 1 L and sits in the front cross carrier. There is no filter.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Gear oil1About 1 L. Krone's technical data table gives the grade: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the PTO and engine, take the key out and secure the tractor and baler. Secure the tailgate with the shut-off tap if open.
  2. Take off the guard on the rear side of the cross carrier.
  3. Undo the checking and draining screws and collect about 1 L of oil.
  4. Refit the drain screw, fill through the checking hole until it just overflows, then refit the checking screw.
  5. Level check every 500 bales: the oil must reach the checking hole.

Chain tension check after the first bales and each season

Chains · every year

Krone's table: check chain tension (roller panel drive, pick-up drive, distance roller to roller panel chain) after the first 100 to 150 bales, again after 500 bales, at the start of every season and after a long idle spell.

Step-by-step
  1. Check the roller panel drive, pick-up drive and the distance between roller and roller panel chain after 100 to 150 bales on a new machine, and again at 500 bales.
  2. Repeat at the start of each season.
  3. If the distance between roller panel chain and roller falls below 20 mm, shift the roller.

Tools: Spanners

Tractor hitch sleeve wear check

Hitch · every year

On the swinging drawbar, Krone says the hitch sleeve must be replaced when it wears to a = 43 mm.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Hitch sleeve1Genuine Krone part: check your handbook and parts bookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Measure the hitch sleeve and compare with 43 mm.
  2. Replace it if worn beyond that. Welding on the swinging drawbar should be done by trained specialists only.

Blade movement check

Blades · every year

Krone's put-into-operation list: the blades must move easily. Corrosion or hard grease can stop them. They are extremely sharp.

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and take the key out. Wear cut-resistant gloves.
  2. Clean the blade guides, undo the screws and move the blades back and forth until they move freely.
  3. Tighten the screws so the blades stay easy to move.

Tools: Cut-resistant gloves, Spanners
