PTO shaft and grease points

PTO shaft · every 8 hours

Krone's figure gives the PTO shaft and grease points at 8, 20 and 40 hours. The figure couldn't be read, so this is set at 8 hours; use your handbook's figure for the 20 and 40-hour points. The rotor gearbox and housing are grease-filled and maintenance-free.

  4. Check the PTO guard is complete and chained.

Krone: check the wheel nuts and air pressure regularly. Tyres are 16 x 6.50-8 at 1.5 bar. Set here to monthly in season.

Step-by-step
  1. Park the rake on firm, level ground, stop the tractor engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Check every wheel nut is seated and tighten if needed.
  3. Set the tyres to 1.5 bar.
  4. Leave tyre and wheel repairs to someone with the right tools.

Tine screws and tine arms

Tines · every year

Krone: retighten the tine screws after first use, then check all nuts and bolts regularly. Tine arm pins go in from the top so the tines touch the ground.

Step-by-step
  1. Lower the rake, disengage the PTO, stop the tractor engine and take the key out. Wait until the rotor has stopped.
  2. Clean it thoroughly. Don't aim a pressure washer at the bearings, and grease all nipples afterwards.
  3. Check moving parts move freely. Strip, clean and grease them if needed and replace worn ones.
  4. Oil all hinge points and grease the whole machine.
  5. Grease the PTO guard tubes so they don't freeze, and grease the joints where the arm tubes fit the rotor and tine bars.
  6. Touch up the paint and protect bare metal.
  7. Jack it up to take the weight off the tyres. Don't let the tyres down, and keep them out of sun, oil and grease.
  8. Store it somewhere dry, away from fertiliser. Order the spare parts you need in good time.
