  6. Never mix coolants of different makes or types, and dispose of old coolant properly.

Tools: Drain tray (20 L), Funnel, Cooling system cleaner, Rubber gloves

AdBlue (DEF) pump filter

Exhaust · every 3,000 hours

Kubota says replace the DEF pump filter every 3,000 hours. The DEF tank suction filter is a dealer job every 8,000 hours.

PartQtyNotesPart number
DEF pump filter assembly1Part number not found: check your handbookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and wait a few minutes. AdBlue keeps circulating after shutdown to cool the injector.
  2. Undo the 4 bolts and remove the pump cover.
  3. Clean around the plug, remove it, unscrew the old filter and fit the new one. Do not oil its O-ring.
  4. Refit the plug and cover.
  5. Every 3 months, smell the AdBlue in the tank. A strong ammonia smell means it has gone off: drain the tank, flush it with distilled water and refill.

Tools: Spanners or sockets, Clean rags, Gloves

DPF ash cleaning and DEF tank suction filter: dealer service

Exhaust · every 8,000 hours

Kubota says the DPF needs its ash removed every 8,000 hours using special equipment, and the DEF tank suction filter replaced at the same interval. Both are dealer jobs. At 3,000 hours the dealer also checks the turbo, supply pump, EGR and DEF injector.

PartQtyNotesPart number

Known problems

Check which M6-142 you have

The data here is for the M6001 series Stage IV M6-142, with intervals taken from Kubota's US handbook for the matching M6-131/M6-141. The later M6142 (M6002, Stage V, from c. 2020) may differ, so check your own handbook and serial number.

Genuine filters only

Kubota warns several times that non-genuine engine and hydraulic filters can cause serious damage.

Water in fuel

Poor care of the water separator and fuel filter damages the supply pump and injectors early. Drain the fuel tanks every 200 hours, and sooner if the fuel has water in it.

AdBlue goes off

Check the AdBlue every 3 months. A strong ammonia smell means it has degraded and should be drained and replaced.

Power shift calibration

If shifting feels rough, the handbook says a dealer should recalibrate the power shift and master clutches.
