Service jobs and parts
Fan belt tension
Engine · every 200 hours
The service chart lists the fan belt at 50 hours on a new tractor and then at every 200 hours.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fan belt | 1 | Check your handbook or parts book | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- With the engine stopped, press the belt halfway between the pulleys and check the deflection against your handbook. Replace the belt if worn or cracked.
Tools: Straight edge or belt tension gauge
Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 500 hours or every year
Kubota's service chart puts the engine oil and oil filter at every 500 hours, after earlier changes at 5, 10, 25 and 50 hours when the tractor is new. Use DPF-compatible CJ-4 oil because the engine has a particulate filter.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 15W-40 or 10W-30. API CJ-4 (DPF-compatible), 22.0 L with filter. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC UHPD-X 15W-40 | check your handbook |
| Engine oil filter | 1 | Kubota-format number from an aftermarket cross-reference listing the M7-131 to M7-174; confirm against the old filter or your parts book | HH1G0-32430 |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground, stop the engine and let it cool until the oil will not burn you. Warm oil drains best.
- Remove the drain plug at the bottom of the engine and drain all the oil into the tray, then refit the plug.
- Remove the old oil filter. Wipe a film of clean engine oil on the new filter's rubber seal.
- Screw the new filter on until the seal touches, then tighten by hand a further half turn only. Kubota says to use a genuine filter.
- Fill with CJ-4 oil to the upper notch on the dipstick. The level should sit within the marked range.
- Run the engine briefly, stop it, check for leaks at the filter seal and drain plug, then recheck the dipstick and top up. The level drops a little after a filter change.
Tools: Drain tray (25 L), Filter wrench, Funnel, Gloves, Shop towels
Fuel filters (pre-filter, main filter and water separator)
Fuel · every 500 hours or every year
The service chart lists the pre-fuel filter and fuel filter at every 500 hours, with the water separator cleaned every 200 hours. Dirty fuel damages the supply pump and injectors early, so do not stretch it.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel filter | 1 | Kubota-format number from an aftermarket cross-reference listing M7-152 and M7-171P; confirm against your old filter | 1G410-52300 |
| Water separator element | 1 | Listed as a genuine Kubota fuel filter for M7-131/151/171 by Partao; not confirmed in a Kubota catalogue. | 1J521-43170 |
Step-by-step
- Do this job in a clean place, not out in the field. Close the fuel shut-off valve.
- Pre-fuel filter: remove the retainer ring and cup, rinse the cup and element in kerosene and refit them without letting in dirt.
- Fuel filter: remove the old filter, coat the new filter's rubber seal with a film of clean fuel, screw it on until it touches and tighten by hand a further half turn only.
- Bleed the fuel system as shown in your handbook.
Tools: Container for fuel, Kerosene for rinsing the pre-filter, Filter wrench, Gloves
Hydraulic oil filters (suction and return) and power steering filter
Hydraulics · every 500 hours or every year
The service chart lists the hydraulic oil filter on the suction side, the one on the return side and the power steering oil filter at every 500 hours. Kubota stresses genuine filters only, as the wrong ones can cause serious hydraulic damage.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hydraulic oil filter (suction) | 1 | Check your handbook or parts book | check your handbook |
| Hydraulic oil filter (return) | 1 | Check your handbook or parts book | check your handbook |
| Power steering oil filter | 1 | Check your handbook or parts book | check your handbook |
| Transmission oil (top-up) | 1 | Kubota UDT or UDT-HD multigrade transmission fluid. Top up to the sight glass; check your handbook for the quantity. Aztec Oils match: AGRITEC UTTO | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground with the rear linkage and any loader lowered, stop the engine and let it cool.
- Put a tray under the filter, remove it with its O-ring, and coat the new filter's seal with clean transmission oil.
- Screw the new filter on quickly until it touches, then tighten by hand a further half turn.
- For the power steering filter, undo the cover, fit the new element and check the O-ring is seated.
- Top up the transmission oil to the upper line on the sight glass, run the engine for a few minutes, stop it, wait 10 minutes, then recheck and top up. Check for leaks.
Tools: Drain tray, Filter wrench, Gloves
Transmission fluid and filter, rear axle and front axle oils
Transmission · every 1,000 hours or every year
The service chart gives the transmission fluid and its filter, the rear axle case oil, the front differential case oil and the front axle gear case oil at every 1,000 hours. The scrambled online chart also shows a transmission filter entry at 500 hours, so check your handbook in case the filter is due sooner.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transmission and hydraulic oil | 1 | Kubota UDT or UDT-HD multigrade transmission fluid. Check your handbook for the quantity. Aztec Oils match: AGRITEC UTTO | check your handbook |

| Rear axle case oil | 1 | Kubota UDT or UDT-HD. Check your handbook for the quantity | check your handbook |
| Front differential and front axle gear case oil | 1 | Check your handbook for grade and quantity | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine and let the oil cool enough to handle. Park on level ground with the rear linkage lowered.
- Drain each case from its drain plug and refit the plugs, then fit the new transmission oil filter as in the hydraulic filter job.
- Refill the transmission to the sight glass with UDT or UDT-HD, run the engine for a few minutes, stop it, wait 10 minutes and recheck.
- Do not mix brands of transmission fluid.
Tools: Large drain tray, Filter wrench, Funnel, Gloves
Engine valve clearance
Engine · every 1,000 hours or every year
The service chart lists engine valve clearance at every 1,000 hours or 1 year. It needs the correct feeler gauge and setting, so most owners leave it to a Kubota dealer.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rocker cover gasket | 1 | Check your handbook or parts book | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Check your handbook for the clearance and procedure, or book it with a Kubota dealer.
Tools: Feeler gauges, Socket set
Air cleaner elements
Engine · every 1,000 hours or every year
The service chart lists replacing the primary and secondary air cleaner elements at every 1,000 hours or 1 year, with the primary element cleaned more often (the chart shows 50 hours). Clean it sooner in dusty work.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary air cleaner element | 1 | Kubota number per FridayParts listing for M7-131/151/171 (also Bobcat 7277323); secondary element not confirmed | 3J080-10860 |
| Secondary air cleaner element | 1 | Check your handbook or parts book | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Open the air cleaner, take out the primary element and clean it, or replace it when it is due.
- Replace the secondary element at the same time as the primary when due. Do not wash or blow it.
- Refit and close the cover.
Tools: Compressed air at low pressure
