Known problems

Blocked oil cooler net and radiator screen

Kubota lists cleaning the oil cooler net and radiator screen as daily checks. Chaff and mud block them on farm work and the hydrostatic drive and engine overheat.

Mixing transmission fluids

The transmission oil is also the hydraulic and steering fluid. Kubota says use UDT or SUPER UDT and do not mix brands.

Wrong brake fluid

Kubota says to use its DOT 3 fluid and that other fluid can corrode the system; if another fluid has gone in, flush and refill.

Wrong engine oil grade

Kubota says CJ-4 oil is for engines with a particulate filter and is not for this engine. Use CD, CE or CF.

Air in the fuel after running dry

If the tank runs dry or the fuel filter is changed, the system must be bled before the engine will run (handbook: Bleeding Fuel System).
