Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 100 hours or every 6 months

The handbook says change the engine oil every 100 hours, and at least every 6 months even if the hours are not reached. It lists the spin-on filter at 250 hours; this task fits a new filter at every oil change to keep oil and filter together, which is more often than Landini asks. The first oil and filter change is at 50 hours.

Step-by-step
  1. Run the engine to warm the oil, then park on level ground, lower implements, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Remove the sump drain plug and let the oil drain fully. Wear gloves; hot oil burns. Refit the plug.
  3. Clean around the filter head, then unscrew the old cartridge and throw it away.
  4. Smear the seal of the new cartridge with clean oil and screw it on by hand only.
  5. Fill with new oil through the filler until it reaches the correct mark on the dipstick.
  6. Start the engine, check for leaks at the filter and plug, stop it, wait a few minutes and recheck the dipstick.

Tools: Drain tray (10 L), Spanner for sump plug, Filter strap wrench, Funnel, Rags, Gloves

Grease points (100-hour list)

Chassis · every 100 hours

The handbook gives a model-specific list of grease points every 100 hours.

  4. Clutch sleeve: no more than two strokes of the gun.
  5. Clutch pedal pivot and brake pedal pivot (2 nipples).
  6. Lift and three-point linkage (7 points).
  7. While you are there, check the power steering reservoir level and top up with ATF if needed.

Hydraulic lift filter and magnetic plug clean

Hydraulics · every 250 hours

The handbook says wash the lift's gauze intake filter and clean the magnetic plug every 250 hours, between oil changes. The first clean is at 50 hours.

Step-by-step
  1. Lower the lift, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Put a tray underneath, remove the filter from its cup and wash it in petrol. Let it dry.
  3. Clean the magnetic plug, refit the filter and plug, and top up the transmission oil to the dipstick mark.

Tools: Spanners, Drain tray, Petrol or parts cleaner

Front wheel hubs grease (2WD)

Front axle · every 250 hours

On 2WD tractors the handbook says grease both front wheel hubs. The maintenance table puts this at 250 hours; the guide page lists it at 500 hours, so 250 hours is used here.

Fuel filter cartridge change

Fuel · every 500 hours

The handbook says replace the fuel filter cartridge every 500 hours and clean the filter bowl. Cartridges must never be washed, only replaced. The first two changes are at 50 and 150 hours during running-in.

  3. Turn the engine until each cylinder in turn is at TDC on its compression stroke (firing order 1-3-4-2) and check both valves of that cylinder.
  4. To adjust, slacken the locknut, turn the screw until the feeler is a light drag, and lock the nut.
  5. Refit the cover with a sound gasket.

Tools: Feeler gauges, Ring spanner and screwdriver, Bar to turn the engine

Gearbox, rear axle and hydraulic oil change, with lift filter clean

Transmission · every 1,000 hours or every year

The gearbox, rear axle and hydraulic lift share one oil. The handbook says change it first at 500 hours and then every 1,000 hours (at least once a year), and clean the lift's gauze intake filter and magnetic plug at the same time.

The handbook says have the injectors checked every 1,000 hours by an authorised service centre. Opening pressure is 185 bar.

Step-by-step
  1. Take the tractor to a dealer or diesel specialist, or remove the injectors and send them.
  2. Ask for the opening pressure (185 bar) and spray pattern to be checked.
  3. After refitting, bleed the fuel system.

Known problems

Running-in services

The first service is at 50 hours: engine oil and filter, wash the lift and power steering filters, check clutch and PTO free travel, tighten bolts. Oil and fuel filters are changed again at 100 and 150 hours.

Oil-bath air cleaner

The handbook gives no fixed interval: check the oil level daily or as needed, and change the oil and wash the element when 8–10 mm of sludge builds up or the oil thickens. Clean the prefilter cup too.

Transmission oil level with external rams

The dipstick has extra notches (B, C, D) for 5, 10 and 15 L more oil when external rams or motors are used. Never use the hydraulics with the level at the bottom mark.

Brake pedals out of balance

Free travel must be the same on both pedals, or the tractor pulls to one side when the pedals are locked together on the road.

Front brakes (where fitted)

Change the front brake pads when the lining is under 1 mm, and check the separate front brake fluid reservoir.

The full step-by-step guides are in Farmyard Workshop once you add your tractor.
