Gearbox oil change

Gearbox · every 250 hours

Lely: first change after about 30 hours on a new mower or new gearbox, then every 250 hours, and more often in hard conditions. There is no filter.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Transmission oil GX 85W-14010.8 L total: part A 0.4 L, part B 0.4 Lcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the PTO and engine, take the key out and wait until the discs have stopped.
  2. Fold the cutterbar up and drain through the drain plugs on the side of the gearbox.
  3. Lower the cutterbar onto level ground.
  4. Fill part A (round section) with 0.4 L, to the rim of the lower drain/fill hole.
  5. Fill part B (straight section) with 0.4 L, to halfway between the dipstick marks.
  6. Check the gearbox for leaks at each service.

Tools: Drain tray, Spanners, Funnel

Mower element grease change

Gearbox · every 500 hours

The Splendimo L cutterbar runs on grease, not oil. Lely: replace it every 500 hours or 1,000 hectares, with exactly 95 g per element: the wrong amount overheats it.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Grease NLGI 0195 g per element, Shell Alvania WR 0 or a calcium-lithium/lithium soap grease. Aztec Oils match: VOLCATEC LITHIUM EP 0check your handbook
Loctite 2431For the fillister head screwscheck your handbook
Split pins1For the castellated nutscheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Stop the PTO and engine, take the key out and wait until the discs have stopped.
  2. Take off the mower disc, then the bearing housing, keeping its shims with it. Refit each housing to its own element.
  3. Scrape out the old grease. Do not use solvent: it attacks the seals and washes out bearing grease.
  4. Weigh in 95 g of NLGI 0 grease.
  5. Refit the bearing housing (screws with Loctite 243 at 39 Nm) and line its hub up with the next element.
  6. Check the O-ring is in the pressure piece, refit the disc and tighten the castellated nut to at least 150 Nm, then on to the next split pin hole (up to 250 Nm). The pin must not stick up above the pressure piece.

Tools: Torque wrench (to 250 Nm), Scales, Spatula (no solvent)

Known problems

Grease, not oil, in the cutterbar

The Splendimo L elements take 95 g of NLGI 0 grease each. Overfilling or using oil makes them overheat.

Castellated nut split pin

The disc nut split pin must not stand above the pressure piece, or it can be knocked out.
