Service jobs and parts
Grease the PTO shaft, drawbar shaft and conditioner rotor bearings
Driveline · every 8 hours
The handbook says the PTO shaft cross assemblies, protection tubes and free-wheel clutch and the profiled tubes every 8 working hours, plus the intermediate shaft bearing blocks in the drawbar and the conditioner rotor bearing blocks.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grease | 1 | Grease (grade not named in the readable text) | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine, take the key out, and lower the cutter bar on to the ground or on supports.
- Grease the PTO shaft nipples (crosses, protection tubes, free wheel clutch) and the profiled tubes.
- Grease the bearing blocks of the intermediate shaft in the drawbar and the bearing blocks of the conditioner rotor.
Tools: Grease gun
Grease the pivot points (40 hours)
Chassis · every 40 hours
The handbook says all the remaining pivots, the headstock pivot, drawbar pivot and wheel support pivot every 40 working hours.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grease | 1 | Grease (grade not named in the readable text) | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Grease the headstock pivot (A), the drawbar pivot (B) and the wheel support pivot (C) in the handbook figure 21, and every other pivot point.
Tools: Grease gun
Change the cutter bar gearbox and drive element oil
Cutter bar · every 250 hours
The handbook says change the oil of a new mower (or a new gearbox) after about 30 working hours, then every 250 working hours. The wrong quantity can overheat and ruin the element. Change it more often in extreme conditions.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gearbox oil | 1 | 85W-140 transmission oil (GX85W-140). See quantities in the fluids table. Aztec Oils match: AGRITEC EP-4 85W-140 WBS | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on a level floor with the cutter bar supported.
- Drain the old oil and refill each gearbox with the exact measured quantity: 540 rpm machine upper 1.7 L and lower 1.9 L; 1000 rpm machine 1.2 L each. Gearbox B 1.2 L each. Gearbox C 0.85 L. Drive element D 0.45 L.
- First change at about 30 hours on a new mower.
Tools: Drain tray, Measuring jug, Spanners
Grease the PTO shaft above the drive element
Driveline · every 500 hours or every year
The handbook says every 500 working hours or yearly, at the cross assembly nipples under the hood.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grease | 1 | Grease (grade not named in the readable text) | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Remove the three bolts from the hood (A) and the sealing plate (B).
- Clear ground and crop from the hat, then grease the nipples on the cross assemblies. Refit the plate and the hood.
Tools: Spanner, Grease gun
Change the grease in the mower elements
Cutter bar · every 500 hours
The handbook says every 500 working hours or every 1,000 hectares.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cutter bar grease | 1 | NLGI 0 calcium-lithium or lithium soap grease (Shell Alvania WR 0), 95 g per element. Aztec Oils match: VOLCATEC LITHIUM EP 0 | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Remove the mower disc and take the bearing housing off the element, keeping the shims in place and the housings with their own elements.
- Remove the old grease. Do not use solvent because it affects the bearing seals and washes the grease out of the bearings.
- Fill the element with 95 g of new grease, weighed. The wrong amount causes overheating and damage.
- Refit the housing, aligning the hub with the next element. Use Loctite 243 on the screws, tighten to 20 N·m. Refit the disc and tighten the castellated nut to 150 to 250 N·m with a split pin.
Tools: Spanners, Torque wrench, Loctite 243, Scales
Check and replace the mower knives
Cutter bar · every year
The handbook's intermittent maintenance: check the knives, discs and wear plates at the start of the season, before storage and when the mower is used heavily. Knives have two cutting edges and are replaced in pairs.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mower knives | 1 | Left and right hand versions for LH and RH discs. Check your handbook or parts book for the numbers | check your handbook |
| Self-locking nuts and knife bolts | 1 | Use new self-locking nuts. Check your handbook or parts book for the numbers | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Support the cutter bar. Fit knives with the cutting edge pointing down in the direction the disc turns.
- When one edge is worn, turn the knife over to use the second edge. Always replace in pairs so the disc stays balanced.
- Replace worn or damaged nuts and bolts. Tighten new self-locking nuts to 50 to 60 N·m.
Tools: Torque wrench, Supports for the cutter bar, Gloves
Start of season and storage checks
General · every year
The handbook's intermittent maintenance list: before prolonged storage, at the start of the season and when used extensively.
Step-by-step
- Grease all points in the lubrication list and the spring-loaded locking pins of the PTO shaft yoke lock. Check the PTO shaft telescopes smoothly.
- Check the gearboxes for oil leaks, the knife bolts (50 to 60 N·m) and the discs (150 to 250 N·m).
- Check the V-belts: each should deflect about 10 mm under 70 N. Slacken them for a long layoff.
- Check the tyre pressure is 2.5 to 3.0 bar, tighten all bolts, particularly on the skids and wear plates, and check all safety decals are present.
- After washing, run the discs a moment to throw off water. Grease the machine with rust preventer; for a long layoff grease the piston rods with anti-corrosion agent and remove it before use.
Tools: Torque wrench, Tyre gauge

Known problems
Overfilled mower elements and gearboxes
The handbook is firm that the grease and oil quantities must be measured. Too much overheats the element.
Repair guides
- Replacing mower knives and checking disc bolts (Lely Splendimo 320 PC) (Moderate, 1 hour): Streaky or ragged cut, vibration, a missing or bent knife, or knives worn on both edges.
- Gearbox oil change and V-belt tension (Lely Splendimo 320 PC) (Moderate, 1.5 hours): Overheating or whining mower gearbox, oil leaks, or the conditioner belts slipping.
