Service jobs and parts

Re-tighten bolts after commissioning

Frame · every 2 hours

Lemken says to retighten all bolts and nuts within the first 2 hours, then check weekly. Wheel nuts are on the same list.

Step-by-step
  1. Tighten all bolts and nuts to the torque table in your handbook, including the wheel nuts.
  2. Secure with thread locker where the handbook says so.
  3. Repeat the check once a week during the season.

Tools: Torque wrench, Socket set

Daily check: hoses, safety equipment and discs

Frame · every 10 hours

Lemken's daily check is for hydraulic hoses, safety equipment and the soil-working tools. Hoses must be replaced 6 years after manufacture.

Step-by-step
  1. Look at the hydraulic hoses for damage and leaks and replace any damaged or over 6 years old.
  2. Check that the safety equipment works.
  3. Check all discs and soil-working tools for damage and wear and replace anything damaged.
  4. On the Rubin 12 KUA, also check the tyres for damage and wear and the air pressure.

Tools: Torch, Rags

Greasing (folding joints, overload bearing, trailer joints)

Lubrication · every 50 hours or every year

The Rubin 9 chart is greased every 50 or 100 hours and before and after a winter break. The Rubin 12 KUA has a longer list of points on a 50 and 100 hour chart. Use Olistamoly 2 grease or an equal.

Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, stop the tractor, take the key out and apply the parking brake. Support anything raised.
  2. Rubin 9: grease the overload element bearings, the flap hinges (four side sections) and the folding cylinder bolts at the intervals on the chart.
  3. Rubin 12 KUA: grease the folding cylinder pins (6 points), trailer joints (10), braking axle (2), pivot bearing, ball coupling and drawbar eye on the 50 or 100 hour chart in your handbook.
  4. Grease again before and after a winter break and coat cylinder rods with acid-free grease.

Tools: Grease gun, Rags

Roller scrapers

Wear parts · every 100 hours

Scrapers keep the roller clear. The gap depends on the scraper type: heat-treated 0.0 mm, armoured or carbide 0.1–0.5 mm, rubber ring roller 8–12 mm.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Roller scraper1Genuine Lemken, per roller type. Check your parts bookcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Loosen the setting nut and set the gap to the table in the fluids and specs lists for your scraper.
  2. Tighten the nut again (46 Nm on a rubber ring roller; 80 Nm on a trapezoidal packer roller).
  3. Turn the roller a full turn: the scrapers must not touch the roller casing in any position.
  4. Replace any scraper that is worn thin (on a flex ring roller, when down to 5 mm).

Tools: Spanners 19 mm and 24 mm, Feeler gauge

Replace hollow discs

Wear parts · every year

Worn hollow discs can have sharp edges and a worn disc no longer cuts or turns the soil. The disc bearings are sealed and need no grease, so keep dirt out of the bearing flange when a disc is off.

Self-locking nut6New nuts every time, per disc. Check your handbook for numbercheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Unfold both side sections fully, raise the implement and secure it so it cannot drop.
  2. Clean the disc and bearing flange so no dirt can get into the bearing.
  3. Undo the six self-locking nuts and take the disc off the flange. Clean the flange face.
  4. Fit the new disc with new self-locking nuts. Tighten to 46 Nm (Rubin 9) or 80–100 Nm (Rubin 12). Wear gloves: worn discs are sharp.

Air brake checks (Rubin 12 KUA)

Brakes · every year

On the trailed Rubin 12 KUA, Lemken says to drain the air tank weekly, clean the coupling-head filter and have the brakes serviced by a specialist workshop every year.

Step-by-step
  1. Weekly: pull the drain valve chain to drain condensation from the air tank.
  2. Clean the filter in the yellow coupling head: press in the plug, turn it 90°, remove the plug, spring, screen and disc, clean and blow out the screen and refit.
  3. Once a year the braking system gets maintenance by a specialist workshop.

Tools: Allen key

End-of-season lay-up

Storage · every year

Lemken's lubrication charts give a set list for before and after winter: grease the guide pins, coat the rods with acid-free grease and the bare concave disc surfaces.

Dirt in the disc bearing flange

When a hollow disc is off, the bearing flange is exposed. Clean first and keep dirt out.

Scraper clearance by roller type

Different rollers want different scraper settings: do not use one setting for all.
