Grease linkage, front axle and driveshaft points

Chassis · every 50 hours

The handbook's 50-hour grease list: front axle swivel pins, axle bearings and the four-wheel-drive shaft, the top link, the load-switch joint, and door hinges and locks.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Grease1EP2 grease. AGCO M.1105 or lithium multi-purpose grease: NLGI 1 if often below 7 °C, NLGI 2 for 7–27 °C, NLGI 3 if often above 27 °C. Aztec Oils match: VOLCATEC LITHIUM EP 2check your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Wipe each nipple clean first.
  2. Four-wheel drive: front axle swivel pins (6 nipples: two steering arm nipples each side, plus front and rear axle bearing nipples), and the drive shaft front and rear.
  3. Two-wheel drive: swivel pins and steering ram pin (2 nipples), and the front and rear axle bearings. Jack the front up before greasing the axle bearings.
  4. Top link (1 nipple), the pivot and coupling, and the power-shift joint.
  5. Smear door hinges and locks with petroleum jelly.

Tools: Grease gun, Rag

Transmission oil level check

Transmission and hydraulics · every 100 hours

The handbook says to check the transmission oil with the dipstick every 100 hours (and the transmission cooler fins, if fitted, are cleaned every 100 hours when needed).

Step-by-step
  1. Park level and stop the engine.
  2. Pull the dipstick and read the level; top up through the filler with the recommended oil.

Tools: Rag

Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 400 hours

Oil and filter together every 400 hours. The handbook calls 400 hours the maximum: change sooner (for example every 200 hours) in hard work. First change at the 50-hour dealer inspection.

Engine oil filter1Spin-on (also Perkins 2654A111 / 4627133). A UK parts seller lists it for the 5465; the handbook gives no number4226293M1
Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, lower the linkage and implements, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. Drain the oil when the engine is hot.
  2. Remove the sump drain plug and let the oil run out fully; refit with a 35 Nm torque.
  3. Unscrew the filter, fill the new one with fresh oil, oil the seal, and tighten half a turn after it touches (not more).
  4. Fill to the MAX mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill: it can cause engine overspeed.
  5. Crank the engine without starting it (unplug the fuel pump feed) until the oil pressure light goes out, then start, check for leaks and recheck the level.

Tools: Drain tray (25 L), Strap wrench, Spanner for the sump plug (plug torque 35 Nm), Funnel, Gloves and rags

Fuel filter element(s)

Fuel system · every 400 hours

Change the fuel filter element every 400 hours and the 150-micron pre-filter element (six-cylinder engines) at the same time. Drain water from the filter every 100 hours (open the tap under each element), and fill the tank at the end of each day to stop condensation.

Step-by-step
  1. Unscrew the filter housing on the right or left of the centre housing.
  2. Take out the element, let it drain, and discard it.
  3. Slide the new element into the head; leave the plastic wrapper on until it is seated, to keep dirt out.
  4. Refit the housing hand tight. If you use a hydraulic-hungry implement, fill the transmission to the top mark.

Tools: Strap wrench or socket, Drain tray

Fan and alternator belt, batteries

Electrics · every 400 hours

Check the belt tension every 400 hours (the cooling section also says check the fan belt every 100 hours); clean the batteries and smear the terminals with petroleum jelly at the same time.

Step-by-step
  1. Check the belt condition and tension (V-belt 10 mm deflection on the longest run, ribbed belt 15 mm).
  2. Adjust by moving the alternator; a new belt stretches in about half an hour, so recheck it.
  3. Clean the battery tops and smear the terminals with petroleum jelly.

Tools: Rag

Known problems

Overlaps an existing entry

A 5465 is not in the existing entries; the 5470 to 5480 are not covered by this handbook.

Polish handbook, partly cut text

The handbook was read in Polish and the printed maintenance chart's columns did not read. Every interval here is from the written service pages. The 15-micron hydraulic filter line is cut off at '40' in the scan.
