Step-by-step
  1. Wipe each nipple clean first.
  2. Lift the tractor off the front axle before greasing the 4WD axle pivots.
  3. Pump grease into each point listed until fresh grease shows, then wipe off the surplus.
  4. Every 300 hours smear door hinges, locks, window catches, body hinges and cover catches with petroleum jelly, and grease the tension roller and water pump nipples.

Tools: Grease gun, Rags

Drain water from fuel filters and sediment bowl

Fuel · every 100 hours

The handbook says drain the fuel filters every 100 hours by opening the taps to let water and sediment out, and check the sediment bowl for water at regular intervals.

Step-by-step
  1. Put a container under the filters and open the drain taps until clean fuel comes out.
  2. Close the taps and work the lift pump (Perkins) or hand pump (Valmet) to refill the filter. Check for leaks.

Tools: Container, Rags

Cab air filter

Cab · every 300 hours or every year

The handbook says clean the cab air filter every 300 hours (more often in dusty work) and change it every 1,200 hours or once a year.

PartQtyNotesPart number

Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, lower implements, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Drain the oil while the engine is warm: remove the sump plug on the right-hand side and let it run out fully.
  3. Refit the plug and tighten it to 80 Nm (59 lbf ft).
  4. Unscrew and bin the old filter. Fill the new filter half full of clean oil and smear a few drops on its sealing ring.
  5. Screw the filter on until the seal just touches the head, then another half turn by hand only. Do not over-tighten.
  6. Refill with approved oil to the MAX mark on the dipstick.
  7. Make sure the engine will not start (disconnect the electrical stop control at the injection pump) and turn it on the starter until the oil pressure light goes out. Reconnect the stop control.
  8. Start the engine, check for leaks, stop it and give the oil time to settle, then recheck the dipstick and top up.

Tools: Drain tray (25 L), Socket for sump plug (80 Nm), Filter wrench, Funnel, Rags

Check fan and alternator belt tension and condition

Engine · every 300 hours

The handbook's belt heading says check the fan belt tension every 300 hours; the cooling page says every 100 hours, so check sooner if unsure. Look at the belt every day. Deflection should be 15 to 20 mm (0.6 to 0.8 in) at the middle of the longest span. Air conditioning compressor belt: 13 to 16 mm (1/2 to 5/8 in).

Step-by-step
  1. Look for cracks. Cross-cracks are allowed; long cracks running along the belt that cross cross-cracks are not, nor are missing pieces or tearing.
  2. Press the belt by hand midway between the fan pulley and the crankshaft pulley and measure the movement.
  3. To adjust, slacken the alternator bolts, move the alternator, retighten securely. A new belt needs rechecking after half an hour to an hour of work.

Tools: Belt tension gauge (optional), Spanners for the alternator bolts

Clean radiator and oil cooler fins

Cooling · every 300 hours

The handbook says clean the radiator fins and the transmission oil cooler fins every 300 hours using compressed air. The interval is flexible: clean more often in dusty or chaffy work. The condenser and oil cooler swing sideways to make cleaning the radiator easier.

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and swing the condenser and oil cooler aside.
  2. Blow the fins clean from the engine side outwards, taking care not to bend them.
  3. Swing the coolers back and check for leaks.

Tools: Compressed air, Soft brush

Fuel filter elements and 150 micron pre-filter

Fuel · every 600 hours

The handbook says change the fuel filter elements (or the canister) every 600 hours, and the 150 micron pre-filter element at the same interval.

Known problems

Initial 50 hour service

The handbook has a first service at 50 hours: engine oil and filter, fuel filters and 150 micron pre-filter, front axle and hub oil, 60 micron Powershuttle filter and high-pressure element, then all the checks. Do not skip it on a newly bought tractor.

Breather

The closed-circuit breather is changed every 8,000 hours. Check its hoses for leaks and damage, make sure the bleed hole is not blocked, and never run the engine with a hose off.

Dealer jobs

Injection pump, governor and injectors, alternator (every 1,200 hours or yearly) and cab or frame bolt tightness (every 600 hours) are dealer jobs in the handbook.

Two belt intervals

The handbook gives 100 hours on the cooling page and 300 hours on the belt heading. Use 100 if the belt is working hard.

Pressure washing

Do not point a pressure washer at the alternator, starter, coolers, 4WD axle pivot pins, inspection cover, radar or electrical connections.

Repair guides

The full step-by-step guides are in Farmyard Workshop once you add your tractor.
