Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 600 hours
New Holland quotes a 600-hour service interval for the whole T5 range. Fresh oil and a new filter go in together at every change. The source gives no time limit in months, so check your handbook if the tractor does few hours.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | Ambra Unitek CJ-4 10W-40 or 0W-40, ≈8 L (to the max mark). Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC EHPD 10W-40 | check your handbook |
| Engine oil filter (spin-on) | 1 | Agriline lists this OEM number for the T5 series; confirm against your serial number | 87679598 |
Step-by-step
- Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil, then park on level ground, lower any implement or loader to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Let it stand for a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves and keep your arms clear of the stream.
- Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully. Refit the plug with a new sealing washer if one is fitted.
- Clean around the filter, unscrew it and make sure the old seal has come off with it.
- Smear clean oil on the new filter seal and screw it on by hand until it touches, then tighten as marked on the filter. Do not over-tighten.
- Fill with oil through the filler until the level is at the maximum mark on the dipstick.
- Start the engine, check for leaks at the filter and plug, stop it, wait a few minutes and recheck the dipstick.
Tools: Drain tray (15 L), Spanner for sump plug, Filter wrench, Funnel, Rags, Gloves
Fuel filters change and water drain
Fuel · when needed
Common-rail injection is easily damaged by dirt and water in the fuel. The sources give no interval for the T5.115 and several different fuel filter numbers exist across T5 builds, so check your handbook for the interval and your serial number for the parts.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary fuel filter / water separator | 1 | Agriline lists it as a genuine CNH item for the T5.115 (also 84597068, 47450037) | 84418744 |
| Secondary fuel filter | 1 | Agriline lists it as a genuine CNH item for the T5.115 (also 90412128, 84348882) | 47450038 |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels. Keep naked flames and sparks well away.
- Clean around both filters so dirt cannot get into the fuel system.
- Drain any water from the separator bowl into a container.
- Remove the old filters, catching the fuel. Fit the new ones with clean, fuel-wetted seals, hand-tight.
- Prime the system as your handbook describes. Never crack open the high-pressure pipes on a common-rail engine; the pressure can inject fuel through skin.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
Tools: Container for fuel, Filter wrench, Rags, Gloves
Engine air filter elements
Engine · when needed
Dust that gets past the air filter wears the bores and turbo quickly. The sources give the part numbers but no interval, so change by the restriction warning or as your handbook says.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outer (primary) air filter | 1 | 84479228 | |
| Inner (safety) air filter | 1 | 84479225 |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine and take the key out. Never run the engine with the filter out.
- Open the air cleaner housing and take out the outer element.
- Only take the inner element out when you are replacing it.
- Wipe the inside of the housing with a damp cloth. Do not blow dirt down the intake.
- Fit the new element(s), make sure they seat evenly, and close the housing.
- Check the intake hoses and clips for cracks or looseness.
Tools: Torch, Damp cloth
Transmission and hydraulic oil and filter change
Transmission · when needed
The gearbox, rear axle, hydraulic lift and power steering share one oil. The sources give the quantity and spec but not the change interval or the filter numbers, so check your handbook.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transmission/hydraulic oil | 1 | UTTO tractor transmission oil. Ambra Multi G (NH 410 B), ≈63 L. Aztec Oils match: AGRITEC UTTO | check your handbook |
| Transmission/hydraulic filter(s) | 1 | Spin-on, Tier 4A tractors. Agriline also lists cartridge 48195967 for the T5.115; check whether yours has both | 84581942 |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground, lower the linkage, loader and any implement fully to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- With the engine off, move the spool valve and linkage levers back and forth to relieve trapped hydraulic pressure.
- Let hot oil cool for a while before draining; it burns.
- Remove the drain plugs and let the oil drain fully. Clean and refit the plugs.
- Change the filter(s), oiling the new seals.
- Fill with Ambra Multi G to the correct level, run the engine, work the linkage and steering lock to lock, lower everything and recheck the level.
Tools: Large drain tray (70 L), Spanners for drain plugs, Filter wrench, Pump or funnel, Gloves
Front axle and final drive oil change (4WD)
Front axle · when needed
The 4WD front axle has its own oil in the centre housing and each final drive. The service manual gives the quantities and the oil (Ambra Multi G, the same as the transmission) but not the change interval, so check your handbook for that.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front axle oil | 1 | UTTO tractor transmission oil. Ambra Multi G (NH 410 B), ≈4.5 L centre housing plus ≈1.0 L per final drive. Aztec Oils match: AGRITEC UTTO | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park on level ground, lower implements, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Turn the front wheels so each final drive plug is in the drain position your handbook shows.
- Drain the centre housing and both final drives.
- Refit the drain plugs and fill each to its level plug.
- Refit all plugs and wipe the axle clean so leaks show up later.
Tools: Drain tray, Spanners, Oil pump or squeeze bottle
Coolant drain and refill
Cooling · when needed
Old coolant stops protecting against frost and corrosion. The sources give the quantity and mix but not the interval, so check your handbook and test the strength every autumn.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antifreeze and water | 1 | 50/50 Ambra Agriflu (NH 900 A), ≈16 L system | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Only work on a cold engine. Leave it to cool for at least an hour after work, then open the expansion tank cap slowly to let any pressure out.
- Drain the radiator and engine block into a tray. Dispose of old coolant properly; it is poisonous to animals.
- Refit the drain plugs and fill with a 50/50 mix.
- Run the engine to working temperature with the heater on, let it cool, then top up.
Tools: Drain tray, Hose, Antifreeze tester
Cab air filters
Cab · when needed
The T5 cab has fresh-air and recirculation filters as standard. No source gave the interval or part numbers, so check your handbook. Clean them more often in dusty work.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cab fresh air filter | 1 | Check your handbook | check your handbook |
| Cab recirculation filter | 1 | Check your handbook | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Stop the engine and take the key out.

Known problems
Brake fluid is LHM mineral oil
The brake control circuit takes Ambra Brake LHM (NH 610 A) mineral fluid. Topping up with DOT brake fluid ruins the seals.
One oil for gearbox, hydraulics and steering
About 63 L of Ambra Multi G is shared by the transmission, lift and power steering, so dirt from a loader or worn pump reaches everything. Keep the filters up to date.
Two gearboxes under one model name
The T5.115 was sold with Dual Command and, from 2013, Electro Command gearboxes. Check which you have before buying filters or oil.
Fuel quality on a common-rail engine
The manual limits fuel sulphur to 50 ppm and the injection system is easily damaged by water. Drain the separator whenever water shows.

Repair guides
- Brake fluid top-up and bleeding (LHM mineral fluid) (Moderate, 1–2 hours): Brake pedal soft or travels further than usual, uneven braking, low level in the brake reservoir, or someone may have topped up with ordinary brake fluid.
- Milky, dirty or overheated transmission/hydraulic oil (Moderate, 2–4 hours plus the oil change): Oil on the dipstick milky, dark or smelling burnt; filters blocking early; whining pump; slow lift or steering. One oil serves gearbox, back axle, lift and (on the T5) steering, so trouble spreads.
- Water in fuel, fuel filters and priming (common-rail engines) (Moderate, 1 hour): Water-in-fuel warning, engine hesitating or losing power, hard starting after a filter change, or a fault code for low rail pressure.
- Identify your gearbox and build before ordering parts (Easy, 30 minutes): Wrong filter or part arrives, oil quantity does not match the handbook, or a parts list shows several numbers for one model.
- Dual Command (Hi-Lo) and shuttle faults: owner checks (Specialist, 1 hour of checks; dealer for calibration and repairs): Hi-Lo powershift slow or slipping, tractor creeps with the clutch down, shuttle harsh or delayed, transmission warning light or fault code.
- Electro Command / semi-powershift: harsh shifts, no drive or fault codes (Specialist, 1 hour of checks; dealer for calibration): Jerky take-off, powershift steps slow or missing, no drive in one direction, transmission fault code, gear display flashing.
- Wet disc brakes worn: checks and disc replacement (Hard, 1 hour of checks; a day per side for discs): Brakes need a long push, tractor pulls to one side, brakes judder or squeal, friction dust in the transmission filter.
- Water pump and thermostat replacement (FPT common-rail engines) (Moderate, 3–5 hours): Overheating, coolant leak from the pump weep hole, squeal or rumble from the belt area, slow warm-up or a coolant temperature fault code.
- Electronic draft control (EDC) lift faults: owner checks (Specialist, 1 hour of checks): Lift will not raise, raises on its own, hunts up and down, EDC warning on the dash, mudguard buttons not working.
- Electro-hydraulic PTO will not engage or switches off (Moderate, 1 hour of checks): PTO will not start, starts then cuts out, PTO light flashing, PTO slips under load.
- 4WD front axle: kingpin play, hub leaks and oil level (Hard, 1 hour to check; most of a day per side to repair): Clunk over bumps, steering wander, play when rocking the wheel top to bottom, oil on the inside of the wheel or the hub, axle oil low.
- Air conditioning not cooling: owner checks (Specialist, 1 hour of checks; specialist to recharge): Air con blows warm, compressor clutch not engaging, ice on the pipes, musty smell, weak airflow.
- Starter motor clicks or will not turn: testing and replacement (Moderate, 1–3 hours): Single click or rapid clicking, slow cranking, nothing at all when the key is turned, starter keeps running after the engine starts.
- Battery light on or not charging: alternator and drive belt (Moderate, 1–2 hours): Battery warning light on, flat battery each morning, belt squeal, voltage gauge low, lights dim at idle.
