Daily checks (every 10 hours)

General · every 10 hours

The handbook's 10-hour list: brake fluid reservoir, water in the fuel filter, engine oil level, battery electrolyte, coolant expansion tank, washer bottle, cab air filter and the radiator, intercooler and air-con condenser.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Engine oil115W-40 for topping up. AMBRA Master Gold, API CH-4 / ACEA E5. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC SHPD-X 15W-40check your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, stop the engine and wait at least 5 minutes, then pull the dipstick, wipe it, push it fully home and read it. Keep the oil between MIN and MAX and top up through the filler.
  2. Check the coolant in the expansion tank sits between MIN and MAX; top up through the filler with the same 50/50 mix.
  3. Check the brake fluid reservoir level. Check the battery electrolyte with the engine off and the battery cold (120 Ah, under the cab step on the right).
  4. If the water-in-fuel symbol shows on the display, drain the fuel filter at once: stand a container under it, unplug the sensor lead, undo the drain knob until clean diesel runs, then close it and refit the lead.
  5. Top up the screen wash (use antifreeze in winter). Clean the cab air filter if dusty.
  6. Look for chaff or dirt in the radiator, intercooler and air-con condenser; blow it out front to back with air or a washer under 7 bar.

Tools: Rag, Small container for fuel filter water

Grease all points (every 50 hours)

Chassis · every 50 hours

The handbook's 50-hour greasing list with AMBRA GR9: the lift and hitch, the steering cylinders and the front axle pivot pins on four-wheel-drive tractors, or the steering cylinder, spindles and axle pivot pin on two-wheel-drive tractors.

  3. Four-wheel drive: two nipples on the steering cylinders, one on the rear axle pivot pin and the front pivot pin nipple (pump until grease shows at the outlet).
  4. Two-wheel drive: steering cylinder nipple, right and left spindle nipples, and the front axle pivot pin nipple.
  5. Wipe off the surplus.

Tools: Grease gun, Rag

300-hour oil level and brake checks

Transmission · every 300 hours

At 300 hours the handbook has you check (not change) the rear main reduction gear oil, the transmission and lift dipstick, the front axle housing oil and the front hub reduction oil, adjust the handbrake, grease the 4WD spindle bearings and front hubs, and have the dealer check the alternator belt.

Grease1EP2 grease. New Holland AMBRA GR9 (NH 710A), NLGI 2. Aztec Oils match: VOLCATEC LITHIUM EP 2check your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Rear main reduction gears: park level and take out the filler plug; a little oil should run out. If not, top up through the same hole until it does.
  2. Transmission and lift: with the tractor level, engine off and the lift arms down, the oil should reach MAX on the filler plug dipstick. Top up through the filler.
  3. Four-wheel-drive front axle housing: take out the level plug; oil should be at the hole. Top up if not.
  4. Front hub reduction gears: turn the wheel so the plug is horizontal and check the oil at the hole.
  5. Handbrake: if it does not hold on the third ratchet tooth, loosen the locknut, turn the adjuster until it does, and tighten the locknut.
  6. Four-wheel drive: pump AMBRA GR9 into the two spindle bearing nipples on each side (at least twice a year). Two-wheel drive: take the hub caps off, pack the front wheel bearings with grease and refit.
  7. Leave the alternator belt to the dealer.

Tools: Spanners for the plugs, Oil can or pump, Grease gun

Hydraulic oil filter

Transmission · every 300 hours

Change the hydraulic lift oil filter every 300 hours, and first at 50 hours on a new tractor. The oil itself is changed at 1,800 hours (see the transmission oil task).

  2. Remove the cover and lift out the outer element.
  3. Blow it out from the inside with air under 5.9 bar, or wash it with a non-foaming detergent under 2.9 bar and dry with air below 50 C. Never refit it damp.
  4. Wipe the housing out with a damp cloth, refit the element and cover. Do not tap the element on a hard surface.

Tools: Compressed air (under 5.9 bar) or soft water hose, Clean damp cloth

Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours or every year

TD5010, TD5020 and TD5030: every 500 hours. TD5040 and TD5050: every 600 hours (500 is used here as the safe figure for all five). The handbook says to change the oil and filter at 150 hours when working below -12 C or in hard conditions, and at 150 hours (0.5 to 1.0% sulphur diesel) or 75 hours (1.0 to 1.3%). First change at 50 hours on a new tractor.

Step-by-step
  1. With the engine cold and stopped, remove the expansion tank cap and the radiator cap, and open the radiator drain.
  2. Close the drain and fill with soda solution (250 g per 10 L of water), run the engine for about an hour, then drain it.
  3. Rinse with clean water, run for a few minutes and drain. Never pour cold water into a hot engine.
  4. Fill with the new 50/50 mix, run the engine so the thermostat opens, and top up to the expansion tank MIN/MAX marks.

Tools: Drain tray, Funnel, Hose

Valve clearances (dealer job)

Engine · every 1,200 hours or every 2 years

The handbook lists the valve clearances in the 1,200-hour or 2-year group and tells you to use a dealer. For the TD5040 and TD5050 the figures are inlet 0.25 mm and exhaust 0.50 mm (each plus or minus 0.05 mm), engine cold. No figure is given for the TD5010 to TD5030.

Step-by-step
  1. Book it with a dealer or competent mechanic. Set the clearances cold.
  2. TD5010 to TD5030: the handbook gives no figure, so check the engine's own data.

Transmission, hydraulic and rear reduction oil change

Transmission · every 1,800 hours

Every 1,800 hours the handbook has the rear transmission and hydraulic lift oil (46 L) and the oil in the two rear main reduction gears (5.3 L each) drained and refilled, with the hydraulic filter changed at the same time.
