Engine oil and filter change
Engine · every 300 hours
The TS90/TS100/TS110/TS115 operator's manual (01/00) gives 300 hours as the normal engine oil and filter change. Halve it to 150 hours below -12 C or in arduous conditions; with diesel at 0.5 to 1.0% sulphur change every 150 hours, and at 1.0 to 1.3% every 75 hours. The 150-hour figure in older notes is the severe-use interval.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 1 | 15W-40 or 10W-30. Ambra Super Gold 15W-40 (NH 330 G) or 10W-30 (NH 324 G), API CF-4/SG, CCMC D4, 20.9 L with filter. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC EHPD 15W-40 | check your handbook |
| Oil filter (spin-on) | 1 | Agriline 80001. Agriline also lists a different filter (10230, M27 thread) for the TS115; match your old filter | 81879134 |
Step-by-step
- Run the engine to working temperature, then park on level ground, lower implements, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
- Remove the sump plug and drain the hot oil. Wear gloves; hot oil burns. Refit the plug with a new washer.
- Clean round the filter, unscrew it and check the old seal came off with it.
- Oil the new filter's seal and screw it on hand-tight.
- Refill to the top mark on the dipstick, about 20.8 L.
- Start the engine and check for leaks and that the oil light goes out. Stop it, wait a few minutes and recheck the level.
Tools: Drain tray (25 L), Spanner for sump plug, Filter wrench, Funnel, Rags, Gloves
Fuel filter element change
Fuel · every 600 hours
The TS90–TS110 repair manual gives a fuel filter element change every 600 hours. Dirty fuel damages the Lucas DPS pump and injectors.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |

Known problems
Range lever cable seizing
The high/low range cable can stiffen or seize, often at its lower shroud, because many tractors were run mostly in high range.
Shuttle synchros and gear buttons
Shuttle synchros can get noisy (check forward/reverse changes standing still), and the buttons on the gear lever can fail. Jerky clutch packs can often be fixed by dealer recalibration.
Exhaust manifold cracking
The exhaust manifold can crack under the silencer mount. It can be repaired, but the exhaust stack has to come off to open the rear bonnet.
Four-wheel drive dog clutch
The front-drive dog clutch is prone to wear. Check 4WD engages and drives both forwards and in reverse.
Over-tuned engines
Turbo kits were often fitted. Tractors making well over 150 hp at the engine are best avoided, and the breather should be checked for blow-by.
Work lamp fuse holder
The work lamp circuit can melt its fuse holder, which is awkward to repair.
Repair guides
- High/low range lever stiff or seized (range cable) (Moderate, 2–4 hours): Range lever very stiff, will not go fully into low, or jumps out of range. Often on tractors that spent most of their life in high range.
- Shuttle synchro noise, gear-lever buttons and jerky clutch packs (Specialist, 1–2 hours of checks; synchro work means splitting the tractor): Grinding or clunk when changing forward/reverse at a standstill; Dual Command or powershift buttons on the gear lever not responding; harsh or jerky take-up of the hydraulic clutch packs.
- Cracked exhaust manifold (Moderate, 4–6 hours): Ticking or puffing noise from the engine that is worse when cold, soot marks on the manifold, exhaust smell in the cab. The crack is usually under the silencer mount.
- Four-wheel drive will not engage or drops out (Hard, 1 hour to test; most of a day to repair): 4WD light comes on but the front wheels do not drive, 4WD drives one way but not the other, or a knock from under the tractor when 4WD engages.
- Blow-by check on turbo-kit or over-tuned engines (Moderate, 1–2 hours to check): Oil mist or fumes pouring from the breather, oil use rising, black smoke, overheating under load. Many TS115s had turbo kits fitted.
- Work lamp fuse holder melted (Moderate, 1–2 hours): Work lamps flicker or die, the fuse looks fine but the fuse holder is brown, soft or melted, hot plastic smell.
- Dual Command (Hi-Lo) and shuttle faults: owner checks (Specialist, 1 hour of checks; dealer for calibration and repairs): Hi-Lo powershift slow or slipping, tractor creeps with the clutch down, shuttle harsh or delayed, transmission warning light or fault code.
- Clutch pedal soft or clutch not freeing (hydraulic clutch control) (Moderate, 1–3 hours): Clutch pedal soft or sinks to the floor, gears grind, fluid leak near the pedal or the clutch housing.
- Wet brakes weak, pulling or pedal sinking (Hard, 1–2 hours to check and bleed; a day per side for discs): Long pedal travel, one pedal much lower than the other, tractor pulls to one side when braking, brakes squeal or judder.
- Water pump and thermostat replacement (Moderate, 3–5 hours): Overheating, coolant dripping from the weep hole under the pump, bearing noise or wobble in the fan pulley, slow warm-up or no heat in the cab.
- Bleeding the fuel system and finding a bad injector (Lucas DPS pump) (Moderate, 1 hour to bleed; 3 hours for injectors): Will not start after a filter change or running dry, misfire, smoke, uneven idle, knocking from one cylinder.
- Hydraulic lift and EDC faults (Moderate, 1–3 hours): Linkage will not lift or lower, EDC warning light flashes, linkage creeps down, lift is slow or jerky.
- PTO slipping, not engaging or not stopping (Hard, 1 hour of checks; a day to strip the PTO clutch): PTO slows under load, will not engage, or keeps turning when switched off. Hot smell from the back end.
- 4WD front axle: kingpin play, hub leaks and oil level (Hard, 1 hour to check; most of a day per side to repair): Clunk over bumps, steering wander, play when rocking the wheel top to bottom, oil on the inside of the wheel or the hub, axle oil low.
- Air conditioning not cooling: owner checks (Specialist, 1 hour of checks; specialist to recharge): Air con blows warm, compressor clutch not engaging, ice on the pipes, musty smell, weak airflow.
- Starter motor clicks or will not turn: testing and replacement (Moderate, 1–3 hours): Single click or rapid clicking, slow cranking, nothing at all when the key is turned, starter keeps running after the engine starts.
- Battery light on or not charging: alternator and drive belt (Moderate, 1–2 hours): Battery warning light on, flat battery each morning, belt squeal, voltage gauge low, lights dim at idle.
