Known problems
Belt burning from slip
Polaris says belt slip makes heat that destroys belts and wears the clutches. Use Low range for slow work and heavy loads.
Debris after a belt failure
Clean every bit of belt out of the clutches, cover and outlet duct screen. Polaris warns leftover debris can cause loss of control.
Wrong or mixed engine oil
Polaris warns that mixing oil brands or using a non-recommended oil can cause serious engine damage.
Severe use halves intervals
Mud, water, sand, heavy slow loads, long idling and short cold trips count as severe use. Polaris says service petrol models at half the stated interval.
Repair guides
- PVT drive belt burnt or slipping: replace the belt and clear the debris (Moderate, 1–1.5 hours): Burning rubber smell, engine revs but the Ranger crawls or will not pull, juddering take-off, or the belt has snapped and the vehicle will not drive.
- After driving through deep water: airbox, plugs and PVT (Moderate, 1 hour, plus a dealer check): The Ranger has been in water above the footrests, will not start, misfires, or the belt slips after a ford or a flooded gateway.
- Brake pads worn or pedal spongy: inspection, pads and fluid (Moderate, 30 minutes to inspect; 1–2 hours for pads on one axle): Long or spongy pedal, grinding, poor stopping when loaded, fluid level dropping in the reservoir, or pads worn thin.
- Engine will not turn over, or turns over but will not start (Easy, 30–60 minutes): Nothing happens on the key, a click only, slow cranking, or the engine spins but will not fire.
