Re-tighten bolts after the first hours
Frame · every 10 hours
Pöttinger says after the first operating hours to retighten all bolts. It names the tine bolts (12 kpm), the tine arm bolts (9 kpm) and the swing frame bolts specially.
Step-by-step
- Lower the tedder onto firm level ground, stop the tractor and take the key out.
- Tighten the tine nuts to 12 kpm (about 118 Nm) and the tine arm bolts to 9 kpm (about 88 Nm).
- Check the swing frame bolts and all others.
- Check the tyre pressure to your handbook.
Tools: Torque wrench, Spanner set
Greasing (all nipples and PTO shaft)
Lubrication · every 50 hours
Pöttinger says grease the nipples with universal grease every 50 hours, and the PTO shaft every 50 hours (the shaft maker's own chart says every 30 hours for the shaft tubes; use whichever is shorter).
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Universal grease | 1 | Universal (multi-purpose) grease | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Stop the tractor and take the key out. Put the tedder in working position, on firm level ground.
- Grease all nipples on the lubrication chart every 50 hours.
- Grease the PTO shaft joints and pull the halves apart to grease the sliding tubes.
- Before the machine stands idle for a long time, clean and grease the PTO shaft.
Tools: Grease gun, Rags
Input gearbox oil change
Gearbox · every year
Pöttinger says change the gear oil after each season (once a year at least). Quantity is 0.75 L of SAE 90. Do the change before winter storage, then oil the joints and grease the points.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gear oil | 1 | SAE 90 gear oil (or SAE 85W-140), 0.75 L. Aztec Oils match: TRANSMATEC EP-4 90 | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Park the tedder in working position on level, firm ground and stop the tractor.
- Take the drain plug out, let the old oil run out and dispose of it properly.
- Refit the plug and fill with 0.75 L of SAE 90 gear oil.
- Before laying up for winter, oil all joints and grease all bearings.
Tools: Drain tray, Spanner, Funnel, Rags
Tine change and tine bolts
Rotor · every year
Broken tines are taken off by slackening the hexagon nut and a new tine put on. The direction of rotation of the rotor matters. The nut goes on at 12 kpm.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring tine | 1 | Genuine Pöttinger. Number differs with model (Ø 9.5 mm or Duraster Ø 10 mm tines are listed on the HIT 4.54 parts list). Check your parts book | check your handbook |
Step-by-step
- Lower the tedder, stop the tractor and take the key out.
- Slacken the hexagon nut on a broken tine and take the tine off.
- Fit the new tine the right way round for the rotor's direction of turn (Pöttinger marks the direction of rotation in the manual).
- Tighten the nut to 12 kpm (about 118 Nm).
Tools: Torque wrench, Spanner set
Winter storage
Storage · every year
Pöttinger's fluids sheet says to change gear oil, grease every grease point and protect bare outside metal with corrosion protection before the machine is laid up for winter.
| Part | Qty | Notes | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corrosion protection | 1 | Fluid 466 or equivalent, for bare metal joints | check your handbook |
| Gear oil | 1 | SAE 90, 0.75 L. Aztec Oils match: TRANSMATEC EP-4 90 | check your handbook |
