PTO shaft lubrication and check

PTO shaft · every 10 hours

Kuhn's 2019 manual: check and grease the PTO shaft after the first 10 hours, then every 10 hours, at the start of each season and after pressure washing. The 2009 manual said every 20 hours; this uses the shorter figure.

Bolt, tine nut and rotor bolt tightening

Tines · every 150 hours or every year

Kuhn: tighten all bolts and nuts after the first 5 and 10 hours, every 150 hours, at the start of each season and after any bolt has been undone. The 2009 manual singles out the tine nuts and the rotor bolts under the rotor tops.

Step-by-step
  1. Lower the Haybob to the ground, disengage the PTO, stop the tractor engine and take the key out. Wait until the rotors have stopped.
  2. Tighten every bolt and nut to the torque in your handbook's table (grade 8.8 bolts).
  3. Pay special attention to the nuts holding the tines and the bolts under the top of each rotor that hold the rotors on.
  4. Replace missing or broken bolts with genuine ones.
  5. On a new or rebuilt machine, do this after the first 5 and 10 hours.

Rotor bolts

The bolts holding the rotors sit under the rotor tops and are easy to miss. Check them with the tine nuts.
