Step-by-step
  1. Support the machine on stands. Never crawl under it. Lower the hopper side and reach the points from above.
  2. Give the tramlining shaft nipples 2 to 3 pumps of the gun.

Tools: Grease gun

Grease the disc bearings

Discs · every 150 hours or every year

Each disc bearing has its own nipple: every 150 running hours, always after washing, and at least once a season.

Step-by-step
  1. Pump the grease in until it starts to come out of the bearing.
  2. To change a bearing: it is a ball bearing pressed on the shaft and held with a Seeger ring. Grease the new sealing rings. See the handbook figures for up to manufacturing no. 237 and from no. 238.

Tools: Grease gun, Circlip pliers, Puller

Grease all points (150 hours, or 200 / 300 ha)

Chassis · every 150 hours

The handbook says lubricate the RD 300 every 200 ha or 150 running hours, the RD 400 every 300 ha or 150 hours, whichever comes first. Fill all oil cups every 150 hours too, and always after washing with a pressure washer.

Step-by-step
  1. Support the machine on stands and do the greasing from the top where possible.
  2. Disc bearings and wheel hubs: pump until grease comes out. Other points: 2 to 3 pumps. The table lists disc bearings, wheel hubs, drive wheel suspension, wheel beam hinges, ram head, combi crank, seed feed shaft bearings, tramlining side plate, bout markers, wheel forks, pre-emergence marker and the packer wheels. The number of nipples per point is in the handbook table.
  3. Fill all the oil cups.
  4. Never aim a pressure washer at the bearings. Grease straight after washing.

Tools: Grease gun, Axle stands

Check the gearbox oil level

Metering · every year

The handbook says the gearbox oil is normally not changed; check the level. Change only if you strip the gearbox or the oil is discoloured.

Pre-season checks

General · every year

Väderstad's pre-season guide and the handbook: tyre pressures, bolts, discs, coulters, scrapers, seed meters, hoses, radar and tramlining.

Radar mudguard (Rapid A 400-800S)1Väderstad article number from the pre-season guide7100480
Step-by-step
  1. Wipe the hydraulic couplings clean and check the colour markings.
  2. Retighten the packer wheel bolts and the brake wheel bolts to 220 N·m. Set tyres to the same pressure: 1.5 bar on 190/95-15 for Rapid 300-400 (2.8 bar for Rapid 600-800).
  3. Clean and calibrate the radar. Keep hoses and cables out of its field of view.
  4. Order new discs in time: minimum recommended diameter 380 mm for the 410 mm System Disc, 400 mm for the 450 mm System Disc Aggressive. For seed discs, order from 390 to 370 mm and replace at 355 mm. Use the multitool to measure.
  5. Coulters: with the machine lowered on the seed discs, the coulter must not touch the ground. Move it up one hole if needed. The coulter must never reach below the disc.
  6. Wheel scrapers: tight, and never less than 5 mm from the wheel.
  7. Seed hoses: no cracks, no sharp bends when folding. Seed meters and feed wheels: clean, check plastic and rubber parts, oilseed rape brushes must turn freely and must not be lubricated. Distributor head outlets and tramlining hatches clear and free.

Tools: Torque wrench, Tyre gauge, Multitool for measuring discs, Axle stands

Check the drive chains and gear mesh

Drives · every year

The handbook: clean the chains and sprocket wheels once a season and grease the chains. From manufacturing no. 463 the drive wheel chain has a spring tensioner; from no. 709 the gearbox chain does too.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Grease1Grease (grade not named in the readable handbook text)check your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Clean the chains and sprocket wheels. Check for wear and grease the chains.
  2. Older drive wheel chain: loosen the nut a little, knock the bolt down in its groove with a rubber mallet, retighten. The shaft should move exactly with the drive wheel.
  3. Refit the guards by the gearboxes before using the drill because they are a counterhold for the tramlining equipment.

Tools: Spanners, Rubber mallet

End of season

General · every year

The handbook says to lubricate at the end of the season, spring and autumn, and after washing.

Step-by-step
  1. Wash the drill and clean all the seed feed parts. Never rinse bearings with a high-pressure jet.
  2. Lubricate everything. Grease or oil the piston rods before a long break.
  3. Grease galvanized and chrome surfaces before storage. Do not use degreaser on the waxy protective coating.

Tools: Pressure washer (not at bearings), Grease gun
