Service jobs and parts

Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 250 hours or every year

The handbook changes the engine oil and filter every 250 hours. On this older engine that is the normal interval, not a severe-use one.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Engine oil110W-30 or 15W-40. Valtra Engine E, API CG-4 / CH-4, ≈7 L with filter (600, 700) or ≈9 L (800, 900). Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC SHPD 10W-30check your handbook
Engine oil filter1Spin-on. Fits the 600, 700, 800 and 900 per Sparex; also sold as Sparex S.109412 / Fleetguard LF3467. Also listed as 20136346 and 7836436346836436346
Step-by-step
  1. Park on level ground, lower any implement or loader to the ground, apply the parking brake, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Run the engine briefly to warm the oil, then stop it. Let it stand a few minutes so the oil drains back, but wear gloves because the oil can still be very hot.
  3. Remove the sump drain plug and let the oil run into a container, clean the plug and refit it.
  4. Unscrew the old oil filter, wipe away any oil that ran onto the chassis, smear a little oil on the new filter's seal and tighten it by hand only.
  5. Fill through the filler to the upper dipstick mark. The two marks are 1.5 L apart.
  6. Start the engine, check for leaks, stop it, wait a few minutes and recheck the level on the dipstick.
  7. Check that the crankcase breather pipe is open and not blocked.

Tools: Drain tray (10 L), Spanner or socket for the sump plug, Filter wrench, Funnel, Rags and gloves

Known problems

Pump 'shriek' in the hydraulics

The handbook says if the hydraulic pump begins to shriek, stop the engine, clean the suction strainer and check the oil viscosity is right.

Foaming after a strainer clean

If the oil foams after cleaning the strainer, the cover seal is leaking and must be tightened or replaced.

Biodiesel

The handbook says check and clean the injectors every 1,000 hours rather than 2,000 when you run biodiesel.
