Service jobs and parts

Fuel prefilter and sediment bowl check

Fuel · every 50 hours

The weekly (50-hour) list says check the fuel system prefilter and sediment bowl. Water in the fuel can wreck the high-pressure pump and injectors.

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and keep naked flames away.
  2. Look at the sediment bowl and prefilter for water or dirt.
  3. Drain off any water into a container and dispose of it properly.
  4. If the engine then won't start or runs badly, bleed the fuel system.

Tools: Container, Rags

Weekly greasing (named points)

Chassis · every 50 hours

The weekly (50-hour) list names three grease jobs: the three-point linkage, the brake mechanism (high-pressure grease) and the front axle mounting bearings.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Grease1Valtra Grease NLGI 2; Valtra Calcium LF for wet points; high-pressure grease for the brake mechanism. Aztec Oils match: VOLCATEC LITHIUM EP 2check your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Clean each nipple before you fit the gun.
  2. Grease the three-point linkage until clean grease comes out.
  3. Grease the brake mechanism with high-pressure grease.
  4. Grease the front axle mounting bearings, ideally with the axle unloaded.
  5. Wipe off the surplus grease.

Tools: Grease gun, Rags

Engine oil and filter change

  4. Oil the new filter's seal and screw it on by hand.
  5. Refit the sump plug and fill with about 19 L of 10W-40 CI-4 oil.

Transmission/hydraulic pressure filters and return filter change

Hydraulics · every 500 hours

The manual says change the transmission and hydraulic pressure filters and the auxiliary hydraulic return oil filter every 500 hours, or sooner if the filter warning lamp lights. Known problems

Biodiesel shortens intervals

On more than 5% biodiesel, the engine oil goes to 250 hours and the fuel filters to 500 hours.

Filter warning lamp

Change the transmission pressure filters at once if the filter indicator lamp lights, whatever the hours.

Vibration damper on smaller engines

The 2,000-hour list includes checking the engine vibration damper on the T121–T161 (6.6 L engines), but not on the T171 or T191.

Later T series

The later T4 series (T144–T234) has a different engine and schedule; this entry is for the T1 series only.
