Engine oil change and centrifugal filter clean

Engine · every 200 hours

The handbook puts the engine oil change in the 200-hour service (TO 2) and says clean the centrifugal oil filter on the 6211–7245 at every oil change. (The 3-cylinder 5211/5245 has washable filter elements instead.)

  2. Remove the sump drain plug while the oil is warm, clean any metal off the plug and refit it.
  3. Undo the centrifugal filter cover bolt, lift off the cover and take out the rotor. Undo the M 32 nut and separate the halves.
  4. Wash both halves in petrol or diesel, dry them and reassemble with the alignment marks facing each other, or the rotor runs out of balance.
  5. Refit the rotor and cover and pour in the specified oil through the filler.
  6. Run the engine for 2–3 minutes at 750–800 rpm, stop it, let the oil settle and top up to the upper dipstick mark.

Tools: Drain tray (15 L), Spanners, Socket for the M 32 rotor nut, Petrol or diesel for washing, Funnel, Rags, Gloves

Coarse fuel filter: wash bowl and strainer

Fuel · every 200 hours

The handbook's 200-hour service (TO 2) says wash the sediment bowl and strainer of the coarse fuel filter.

Step-by-step
  1. Stop the engine and keep naked flames away.
  2. Remove the sediment bowl and strainer, wash them in clean diesel and refit.
  3. Bleed the fuel system with the hand pump if needed.

Tools: Container, Clean diesel, Spanner, Rags

Hydraulic pump suction strainer clean

Hydraulics · every 200 hours

The handbook's schedule lists cleaning the hydraulic pump suction strainer mesh and magnet under the 400-hour service (TO 3), but its hydraulics pages say every 200 hours. The shorter, safer interval is used here, as in the 7745 entry.
