Service jobs and parts

50-hour lubrication

Chassis · every 50 hours

The handbook says lubricate the tractor every 50 hours by its lubrication chart. The HSX chart has 25 points, including the front axle pins, solid-axle central pin, transmission shaft clutches, front axle drive and the front three-point hitch cylinder pins. Use PTFE grease on a suspended front axle.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Grease1EP2 grease. Grease to DIN 51825 KP 2 K-20 (NLGI 2), such as Shell Retinax HD2 or LA 2; PTFE grease for a suspended front axle on HSX. Aztec Oils match: VOLCATEC LITHIUM EP 2check your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Only grease with the engine stopped and the tractor secured by the parking brake.
  2. Wipe each nipple, pump in grease until clean grease shows and wipe off the excess.
  3. Work through the front axle, transmission shaft clutches, hitch and linkage points on your lubrication chart.

Tools: Grease gun, Rags

100-hour checks

Chassis · every 100 hours

The handbook gives a 100-hour list: blow out the cooler with compressed air, service the dry air cleaner when the indicator shows, check the oil in the gearbox and final drive, the front PTO gearbox, the reducers and front axle housing, drain condensate from the air reservoir, and check the steering and brakes.

Step-by-step
  1. Blow through the cooler from the engine side.
  2. Check the gearbox, front PTO box, reducer and front axle oil levels.
  3. Drain water from the air reservoir.
  4. Test the steering, tractor brakes and trailer brakes.

Tools: Compressed air, Rags

Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 500 hours or every year

Zetor's schedule lists the engine oil and the full-flow oil filter together at 500 hours, or at the yearly service if that comes first. The handbook says the filter is replaced with every oil change.

  2. Put the tray under the sump, unscrew the drain plug and let all the oil run out.
  3. Clean the drain plug, check its sealing ring and refit it.
  4. Unscrew the old oil filter. Clean the sealing face on the filter housing.
  5. Smear the new filter's rubber seal with the same oil you will fill with. Screw it on by hand until the seal touches, then tighten a further 3/4 to 1 1/4 turns. The handbook gives turns, not a torque.
  6. Fill with about 10 L of oil, run the engine for a minute and check for leaks.
  7. Stop, wait a few minutes and check the dipstick. Top up to the upper mark.
  8. Take the old oil to a recycling point.

The HSX list adds calibrating the injection pump stops and checking the control-unit software.

Step-by-step
  1. Check and adjust the V-belt tension.
  2. Check the steering and front axle pin for play.
  3. Check the free play of the clutch and brake pedals and test the brakes.
  4. Clean the battery terminals and coat them thinly with grease.
  5. Check the air system for leaks and the seat for correct working.

Known problems

Check which Forterra you have

The schedule differs between the 95-125 and the HSX (urea, particle filter, no steering oil row). Part numbers also differ by engine and date, so check against your serial number.

Low-ash oil on HSX

HSX engines with a particle filter need the low-ash (L-SAPS) 15W-40 the handbook names. Ordinary diesel oil can block the filter.

The full step-by-step guides are in Farmyard Workshop once you add your tractor.
