100-hour checks

Chassis · every 100 hours

The handbook gives a 100-hour list: blow out the radiator, service the air cleaner if the indicator shows, check the gearbox, portal, front drive and front axle oil levels, and drain water from the air brake tank.

Step-by-step
  1. Park level, lower implements, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Let the engine cool, then blow chaff out of the radiator with compressed air. Wear goggles.
  3. Check the gearbox, rear portals, front output shaft housing and front axle oil levels and top up.
  4. Drain the water out of the air brake reservoir.

Step-by-step
  1. Run the engine up to working temperature, then park on level ground, lower implements to the ground, stop the engine, take the key out and chock the wheels.
  2. Let it stand a few minutes. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves.
  3. Remove the drain plug and let the oil drain fully. Clean the plug and screw it back in.
  4. Unscrew the old filter cartridge, make sure the seal comes off with it, and wipe the face clean.
  5. Oil the new seal and fit the cartridge by hand. Do not over-tighten.
  6. Fill with fresh oil to the dipstick mark.
  7. Run the engine briefly, check for leaks, stop it and recheck the level.

Known problems

Extra gearbox oil on slopes

If the tractor works on slopes, the handbook says fill the gearbox with about 7 L more oil (the upper 'B' mark), or the pump can draw air.

Gearbox breather cap

The gearbox filler cap is also its breather. Only replace a lost or damaged one with the original part, or the case can pressurise and leak.

Several separate oils

Gearbox, two rear portals, front axle, two front reducers and the front output shaft gearbox all have their own oil and levels. It is easy to miss one; check them every 100 hours.

Gearbox filters due often

Two gearbox filters protect the pump and the power shift. They are due every 500 hours, three times as often as the oil.

Filter numbers vary by model

Parts lists mix up Proxima, Proxima Plus and Proxima Power fitments, so check part numbers against your serial number before ordering.

Repair guides

The full step-by-step guides are in Farmyard Workshop once you add your tractor.
