Service jobs and parts

Daily checks (every 10 hours)

General · every 10 hours

The handbook's 10-hour list: engine oil level and lubrication-system leaks, coolant level and leaks, fuel system leaks, clutch fluid, hydrostatic steering oil level, tyre pressures, brake fluid, air cleaner clogging indicator, and the hitches.

Step-by-step
  1. Park level, lower the linkage, stop the engine and take the key out.
  2. Check the engine oil on the dipstick between the marks, and look for leaks round the lubrication connections.
  3. Check the coolant level and look over the cooling hoses, the fuel tank and fuel lines for leaks.
  4. Check the hydrostatic steering tank dipstick, the clutch fluid and the brake fluid levels.
  5. Check the tyre pressures and the condition of the hitches and trailer coupling.
  6. Look at the air cleaner clogging indicator and service the filter if it shows red.

Drain the air tank

Brakes · every 70 hours

On tractors with air brakes the chart says to drain the condensed water from the air tank every 70 hours.

Step-by-step
  1. Open the drain valve on the air tank until no water comes out, then close it.

200-hour greasing and checks

Chassis · every 200 hours or every year

The chart's every-200-hour list: grease the front axle pivot pin and extensions, king pins, draft-control rods, lift-assist cylinder pins, telescopic lift link and trailer hitch mouth; check the gearbox, portal, front axle and front PTO oil levels; clean the radiator fins; check the engine belt, clutch and brake pedal free travel, battery, electrics and seat; clean the fuel sedimenter.

Step-by-step
  1. Grease each nipple on the handbook's lubrication chart until fresh grease shows, wiping the nipples first.
  2. Check the oil level in the gearbox, portals, front axle housing, reduction gears and front PTO, and top up if low.
  3. Blow out the radiator fins with air, working from the engine side.
  4. Check the engine belt deflection (7.5 mm under 25 N), the clutch and brake pedal free travel, and the parking and service brakes.
  5. Check the battery electrolyte, clean the terminals and coat them with grease.
  6. Clean the fuel sedimenter and check the hydrostatic steering clearances and the driver's seat moving parts.

Tools: Grease gun, Spanners, Compressed air (low pressure), Rag

Engine oil and filter change

Engine · every 300 hours or every year

Every 300 hours, and first at 70 hours on a new or rebuilt engine. The chart changes the oil and the full-flow filter together.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Engine oil115W-40. The handbook lists 15W-40 (or 10W-30 in the cold) to API CF-4 / CE, for example Mogul Diesel DTT Plus, Aral Multi Turboral, Shell Rimula. ≈10 L. Aztec Oils match: EMPROTEC EHPD 15W-40check your handbook
Engine oil filter1Full-flow disposable cartridge. The handbook gives no number; check your handbook or dealer against the engine numbercheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Warm the engine, park level, lower everything, stop the engine and take the key out.
  2. Hot oil burns, so wear gloves. Remove the sump plug and drain the oil.
  3. Remove the oil filter, clean the sealing surface, coat the new seal with fresh oil and fit the filter by hand; the handbook then tightens it a further 3/4 to 1 1/4 turns once the seal seats.
  4. Refit the plug and fill with about 10 L through the filler.
  5. Run the engine at 750 to 800 rpm for 2 to 3 minutes, stop it, let the level settle and check the dipstick. Check the filter and plug for leaks.

Tools: Drain tray (15 L), Filter wrench, Spanner for sump plug, Funnel, Rags, Gloves

Transmission oil filter (hydraulic pump suction cartridge)

Transmission · every 600 hours

The chart replaces the transmission oil filter cartridge (the hydraulic pump suction filter on the left of the gearbox) every 600 hours, and first at 70 hours on a new tractor. The handbook says you can change it without draining the gearbox, but about 10 L of oil will run out.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Transmission oil filter cartridge1Hydraulic pump suction filter. The handbook gives no number; check your handbook or dealercheck your handbook
Transmission oil1UTTO tractor transmission oil, for topping up. Pour the spilt oil back in if it is clean (about 10 L runs out)check your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Change it with the oil cold. Have the new cartridge ready and a clean 10 L container under the filter.
  2. Clean round the filter housing, remove the old cartridge and fit the new one.
  3. Pour the spilt oil back into the gearbox if it is clean, run the engine and check for leaks.
  4. Check the gearbox dipstick: the level should reach the flat part of the dipstick.

Tools: Clean container (10 L), Filter wrench, Rags

Gearbox, rear axle and portal oil change

Transmission · every 1,200 hours or every 2 years

The chart's marks for the gearbox, final drive and portal oil start at 1,200 hours, with a maximum of two years between changes, and a first change on a new tractor (marked with a star). The column marks were read from the page layout, so confirm against your service book.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Gearbox and rear axle oil180W gear oil, API GL-4 (for example Mogul Trans 80, Gyrol UTTO, Esso Torque Fluid 62; 10W-30 UTTO types are also listed). 62 to 64 L, plus extra for 4WD and for hilly work (see fluids). Aztec Oils match: AGRITEC UTTOcheck your handbook
Portal (final drive) oil2As the gearbox, ≈1.9 L eachcheck your handbook
Step-by-step
  1. Drain the oil warm, from the gearbox drain plug and each portal.
  2. Refit the plugs, fill through the filler to the flat part of the dipstick and add the extra litres the handbook gives for hill work or outside hydraulics if you use them.
  3. Change the transmission filter if due, run the engine and recheck the level.

Tools: Large drain tray (70 L), Spanners, Funnel or pump

Fuel filter cartridge and dealer checks

Fuel · every year

The chart replaces the fuel filter cartridge at many service intervals through the tractor's life, but the column marks for it could not be read reliably from the scan, so the interval here is only a yearly prompt. Check your service book for the exact hours. The dealer also checks injector opening pressure (22 MPa) and the injection pump at the chart's longer intervals.

PartQtyNotesPart number
Fuel filter cartridge1Genuine number per Partao, which lists Proxima Plus 8541, 9541 and 10541.931273
Step-by-step
  1. Replace the cartridge and bleed the fuel system as the handbook shows.
  2. Have the dealer check injector opening pressure and the injection pump at the chart's longer intervals.

Tools: Filter wrench, Container for diesel, Rags

Cylinder head nuts and valve clearance

Engine · every year

The handbook has the cylinder head nuts retightened and the valves checked after the first 70 hours, and again at the longer chart intervals, at an authorised workshop. Clearance 0.25 ± 0.05 mm cold, inlet and exhaust; head torque 160 to 180 Nm.

Step-by-step
  1. Book it with a Zetor dealer, or have a competent mechanic do it on a cold engine. Check your service book for the repeat interval.

Tools: Torque wrench, Feeler gauges

Winter lay-up

General · every year

The handbook says to run a stored turbocharged engine for a few minutes at least once every three months so the turbo's inner protection is restored.

Step-by-step
  1. Fill the tank, change the oil and filters before storing, charge and remove the battery.
  2. Start and run the engine for a few minutes once every three months while the tractor is stored.

Known problems

Run-in jobs at 70 hours

After 70 hours change the engine oil and filter and the hydraulic filter, and have the cylinder head nuts and valve clearance checked. The handbook ties these to the warranty inspection.

Limited-slip and wet-brake oils

Tractors with front brakes or limited-slip differentials need gear oil with the additive for wet brakes and limited slip; the handbook marks which of its listed oils have it.
